If you needed to get rid of a director demanding too much money that your fanbase loved, what would you do?

I really havent seen anyone in support of Disneys decision. Maybe the backlash will force them to backpedal. I can only hope

Directed the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Made bad pedophile jokes on Twitter like 8 years ago, then deleted them and apologized.

Some reason it's become news now and he got fired

I'm glad people are coming out and standing up for him.

He's most known nowadays for writing and directing the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. He also did Slither, SUPER, Tromeo and Juliet and wrote the Scooby-Doo movies (I like those, come at me).

Disney fired him recently over some old, admittedly vulgar, tweets from 6-10 years ago.
Dude has always been known for his twisted sense of humor back then and I'm sure Disney themselves already knew that when they hired him. He's way less edgy nowadays, but people decided to bring those tweets back up and Disney suddenly took issue with it.

I imagine Disney knew but was (reasonably) unconcerned with his old tweets, right until they were faced with the imminent prospect of a controversy over them. Then to nip that controversy in the bud, they fired him. I don't think it's a particularly unreasonable action for DISNEY to take, but I also don't think it was the right one.

Would have preferred to see them say "Yes we knew about these old bad tweets, and we had discussed them with James Gunn, and in light of the fact that they were nothing more than old bad tweets, and nothing like that has come from him for years, or ever will again (at least so long as he works for us), it's water under the bridge." But again, it's Disney, and firing him is a much easier way to protect the brand than any nuanced approach and the controversy that bloggers and media outlets would surely stoke into a wildfire.

These tweets are NOT old. Gunn made these tweets within a year of being signed as the director of Gaurdians of the Galaxy, which STILL makes his posts relevent. The comments were not made before 2000 while he was still in high school, they were made while he was shopping to be a director for a big movie.

Disney *had* to know since this shit was brought up when he was first hired in 2012(13?).

The difference is that James Gunn was trying to weaponize tweets for his twitter wars and someone turned it around on him and got a bunch of Trumper supporters to complain about it.

You can't expect the world to *only* target one side with this twitter shit. It isn't like it's Gamefaqs or something.
