I understand when people do the awkward pause but it saves time and makes me happy to speak a bit slow compared to getting the wrong order and coming back or repeating myself.

Once the receipt starts printing though, I'm calling the next customer over, whether you're out the door or fumbling with your purse because you don't remember how to open the zipper. --- This is LinksLiege's signature. Customers certainly aren't saints either. Have your card ready, have money ready, tell people about coupons etc.

If a cashier is rushing people through, i expect you to do your job flawlessly. Even a small mistake with my order and im calling your manager over.

Nope, I am a cashier and being fast is good and necessary. Your 3 seconds in front of the register isn't as important as literally the hundreds of other people you never think about that need to get their stuff rung up so things happen as they need to.
