This is true. I have been persecuted by christians for not believing what they believe. This would not have happened if not for belief in jesus so jesus is technically correct.

I believe that Jesus either

A. was just made up and is based on a bunch of different prophets

B. was a real man but his story was different from what the bible says

either way, I don't think he would approve of modern Christianity. but he also wouldn't have liked medieval Christianity. he was probably like the Buddha and asked people to be always peaceful and just not be an ass. simple as that. but then it got all complicated in the bible and used for power and greed to control the world.

well in their eyes it's a good reason. they literally think the people they persecute are evil or in need of saving. they either want to send them to hell or save them from hell depending on the situation.
