Game has a half-decent justification for it in that Velvet was in a daemon-filled prison with the clothes on her back for two years and, aside from adding some accoutrement to it during the escape, obviously has no interest in her physical appearance during the game proper.

Velvet is interesting from what I have seen so far. I won't say any spoilers, but a friend of mine and I started a co-op Beseria run over a year ago. But then he moved 300 miles away from me to get a house back in his hometown...

EVEN SO, "The Dream Will Never Die." I occasionally visit him when I have time off and we progress further. I am playing as player 2 and using the 6th party member that joins. He plays as Velvet. Fun and silly game so far, I look forward to the next chance I have to play.

yeah the justification for why she is wearing it is fine
its that she has no justification for wearing it throughout the entire game but it is hilarious that one of the first places you go is a snow covered land and even the bad guy look at her and ask if shes cold

i dont usually like overly sexualized designs but i adore velvets outfit
and you automatically start with an alternate costume that is just as cool but without the fanservice

you dont have to get it you start with it
just open up your menu and go to fashion and you can put her into the outfit she was wearing at the start of the game

I should probably ask this on the Beseria board, but does anyone have some general, non-spoiler tips for using the 6th party member, Eleanor? Fun character, but I am still trying to get a feel for things. This is my 1st time through the game

Making her the first female lead was such a damn good idea, I think.

Saved her from feeling like another edgy male anime protagonist and saved her from the siscon cliche with her brother (since you know Laphicet would be a little sister if Velvet was a dude).

lots of people dont count milla as the series first female lead for a couple reasons

for one you have a choice between her and jude
and secondly is that if you pick her you end up missing out on a huge chunk of the story so the game really wants you to pick jude as the lead

so yeah id say velvet is the first true female lead of the series

Yeah I like how not so cookie cutter this game is. She's pretty much a sort of Anti-Hero (after the three year timeskip) and I like it.

Also the name Velvet I might regularly find kinda cringy but it just really fucking suits her for some reason.

I also started a playthrough like, last week monday I think it was. I have been a huge fan of the tales of series since they were first getting localized, and berseria is definitely in my top 4 for the bit I played of it so far. (xillia 2, vesperia and abyss is my other three. Loved xillia 2's grimderp DARKNESS story, lol).

I'm not sure if you got to the first inn or not, but make sure you sleep in it. (if you open the map, it has a green chat symbol there. These usually notify you on side-quest type stuff). You get a shirtless outfit for rokurou. I think this is like, the only permanent missable in the game from what I read.

well considering symphonia is a mid tier tales at best that is massively overrated because of babby's first jrpg syndrome, it's a lot better. berseria is one of the few 3D tales games I feel that can hang with the 2d tales (aka the superior games in the series)

That cleavage does look pretty absurd though. I think Ryuko from Kill la Kill is the only one I know of that does "story justified revealing outfit" right mainly because I think her transformed outfit is actually less bad than her original.

i was disappointed that eleanor never actually patched up the outfit because it could have actually been worth using

It's funny, though. There's actually a mod that makes her outfit less revealing, when the average mod makes clothing hilariously skimpy (ever look through Skyrim Mod Nexus).

It's the one game I've seen a mod like that for. Cracks me up.

it's definitely the better game even if just because its dungeons don't murder the pacing nearly as much (though they're instead just mindless and basic but mercifully kinda short)
writing is classic tales where they repeat the same things over and over and fucking over again but the voices are much better and there are some attempts at actual humor made in some of the skits
battle system is radically different and is focused much more on hitting the right weaknesses to stagger enemies for combos, which is much different than how in symphonia you can basically combo whatever the fuck you want at any time
you can't freely choose an arte to use due to the dumb arte trees system and you'll have to be shuffling/memorizing them a lot to remember what hits what random weakness (in addition to elements, skills are effective against specific monster types)
characters feel more meaningfully unique and mages have something to do besides sit in the corner and mindlessly spam while everyone else gets to do actual gameplay

it's very far from the masterpiece people make it out to be but it's worth trying out, especially in multiplayer (as is natural for the series)

Okay...so I still kind of don't know wtf I'm doing with the battle system. I try to see what enemy types are in a dungeon/area and then stack as many stun moves pertaining to that enemy as possible. Then when I end a combo chain I therionize with R2 to keep the combo going.

Im on moderate difficulty and got my ass kicked by the giant bat thing in the first cave once. Then somehow beat it on the retry.

During the fight with lizard sailor it told me of the weak point thing which kinda makes more sense but...Idk. i feel like I'm still generally just mashing buttons.

Nah, not really. There are stupid design like Quiet from MGSV, which not only had a stupid in story justification but also an ugly design as well. It's just this case that the design for her "showy" clothes looked cool in my opinion. I'm not really a fanservice kind of guy to begin with.

Eh, not a fan. Zestiria, despite being one of my least favorite Tales, has the undisputed best opening theme. Abyss is still king for me, though.

You can definitely get through on button mashing, I never bothered with the weak point system (it's honestly not worth the hassle of setting it up) and got through hard mode with minimal resets.

Btw man my suggestion is try everyone in combat at some point, this is a rare game where all the characters are fun to use, even the mages don't suck to play with. Velvet is by far the easiest though, R2 so OP
