No. If it didn't work as the internet was on the rise, it certainly isn't going to work now that the internet has supplanted more traditional entertainment sources for many people.

Even with their "tech-based shows" they often fell into the traps of youtube reactions like Tosh.0 or some indie animated webshows. Or they went the other direction and obsessed over fancy iphone specs like an infomercial.
Xplay was theoretically their centerpiece, and while it started off fine; at some point it became hot garbage. That all said, "G4/TechTV" would not work imo, but a good mix of LPs, Speedruns, documentaries, AVGN, and E3 coverage, etc ... might make a good channel for background noise. --- ...
