Dave Filoni is behind this show and he's probably the most competent person involved in Star Wars right now. Plus, these are most likely going to be episodes that were planned for the 7th season that never came. I guess they decided to finish them up and release them now.

Nope. It was canned shortly after Disney bought Lucasfilm.

I mean they were fine from an over-the-top spectacle perspective, but they offered little narrative-speaking and tonally don't fit with the rest of the series at all. They have zero business being canon.

I thought this was true until I actually watched The Clone Wars. I had always thought it looked stupid, but it happened to be on Netflix and I decided to see what it was actually like. They're both excellent, but The Clone Wars obviously has a level of depth that Clone Wars doesn't even come close to matching.

I do see what you mean but it wad that very fact that made them so entertaining

It was the first star wars related show I watched and each episode made me think damn....is this what I've been missing this whole time!? Granted there wasn't that much in the way of story telling but it was very well delivered

I do remember enjoying the 3D ones too but not as much.

It's not perfect, especially in the earlier seasons. But by season 3, it had pretty well figured it's shit out and was pretty consistent after that. It's an anthology, so it doesn't quite have the same long-form narrative that you'd get from Rebels. You also run the risk of getting an arc of episodes over characters you just don't care about. But on the flip-side, it lets the show tell all sorts of largely self-contained stories, that you might not get otherwise. You get assassination plot-lines. Murder mysteries. Politics. Jail breaks. Buddy cop stories. Gangster stories. Space Vietnam. and so much more.

The series really gets an opportunity to play in the prequels' universe, which was always much more interesting than the movies themselves. It does both the war and the politics side much better than any of the prequels and makes a lot of character way more likable. Anakin in particular is great. You finally get to see the confident, competent, cocky war hero that everyone described Anakin as.

Also it's real violent for a show that aired of Cartoon Network.

Well the streaming service isn't launching until 2019, so no.

Resistance is coming out this year though. I'm looking forward to that more than I am to TCW, if I may be frank.

Oh yeah. All of Disney's decisions as of late have probably been in service to the new streaming platform. Sure, buying Fox got them X-Men and stuff, but it also vastly expanded the pool of movies and television shows they can put on a streaming service. It's also gave them 66% ownership in Hulu.

Disney's streaming service is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
