Last month, however, the businesss overzealous politics cost two young employees their jobs at the Alberta Street location after a local activist released a video complaining that she had been denied service for being black. In the wake of the Starbucks scandal in Philadelphia, in which two black men were arrested after refusing a buy-or-leave request from staff, the bakery owners summarily fired their two female staffers in the hope that doing so would appease the gathering social justice mob. The panic provoked by accusations of racism led the bakerys management to issue a series of contradictory and clumsy statements. From the shadows, power-hungry community activists readied their arrows.

The bakery has since hired a consulting firm as it struggles to regain control of the narrative. Strategically repositioning themselves as the victims of a full assault by the alt-right (a claim for which no evidence has been offered), the bakery is now preparing to deliver its staff into the hands of professional equity educators to retrain them in diversity and inclusion.

So what on earth is going on here? In short, a small network of agit-activists, diversity educators, and sycophantic progressive white allies are trampling over the lives of innocent individuals in pursuit of an equitable power redistribution with them at the top.

This is how most service and retail operations work. Kicking customers who came in on time does cause a shitstorm, but staying open so long as customers keep coming in will result in never closing. Most customers understand this. This woman is the exception, not the rule. It's unfortunate that the employees got fired.

It kind of is, because you will almost certainly have irrational people who show up and get angry about it. Some people lack the critical thinking skills necessary to put together why they can't go in the store if there are other customers in the store. Yes, it will lead to a very rare individual getting super upset. But it's either that or deal with the possibility of a trickle of customers keeping your business open well past closing time. Some places might be fine with that, but others don't want to deal with the overtime or are operating off of pre-determined company policies and have no discretion in the matter.

The logistics of this is besides the point. It's about the normal business practice and what is to be customarily expected.

It is a widespread practice, good or not, to serve those who enter before closing time, and deny those who arrive later.

This woman wanted an exception to a normal business practice solely on the basis of race.

i can agree with this. if it was lets say after 9pm and they arrived after that time. all it takes is a sorry, unable to serve you as we're closed for the night and come back tomorrow.

Anyone who has worked as a waiter, a cashier, a bank teller, a bar tender and such, or is a customer who is at least aware, would understand that almost all, if not all, businesses will allow a courtesy amount of time for customers already inside their establishment to finish what they're doing, and they won't let new customers enter after closing hours.

Yeah I wondered this. This would be the only reasonable reason to fire the employees. Otherwise, I can't agree with them getting fired at all.
