Best case scenario Trump announces he wont run for 2020 after all(yeah right)

and so the republican field is open. Hopefully we can get one of the better republican candates to stand up and do a good campaign.

Because I trust the dems even less to put up a good canidate. Not until Hillary is dead and the DNC has completely refreshed leadership.

Republicans kinda got hijacked by Trump. While the massive field of largely similar candidates squabbled Trump made a lot of noise, got the lions share of media time and got elected because of that and people being sick of the status qou.

I dont exactly trust the RNC either but yeah I dont think better than Trump is a high bar for the republicans.

I think a republican should primary against Trump in 2020 anyways though if he is running.

I think everyone on the left besides the hardline regressives don't want her.

The issue is she wasn't wanted last election so she literally purchased the DNC nomination.

What exactly is going to stop her from doing it again if she wants?

Good chance? There's no way he can lose.

- Incumbent President
- No opposition from within his own party
- Full and unconditional support from his base (the majority of America)
- Its almost 2019 and any serious contenders should have started raising funds already
- Stable economy
- Low unemployment
- People equate Dems with liberals and liberals in America are effing nuts. No matter how insane the GOP is somehow, someway... Dems find ways to make them look OK in comparison. They did Bernie too wrong in 2016. California is letting unregistered people vote in some local elections. Trying to censor and jail people with dissenting views (check out some threads on CE any day of the week).

The net affect is any moderate is going to either waste a vote or not vote at all. So, status quo will remain in effect. That's how politics work.

I agree, but a lot can change in over 2 years. It'd be like saying the GOP is a shoe-in in 2008 because in 2006 the economy was strong

Dems don't need moderates, they need their base to turn out. Moderates rarely win elections

I dont see why they need a moderate. Putting forth a moderate without any exciting policy ideas was a huge problem in 2016.

And the fact that that moderate was Hillary Clinton was just the icing on the cake lol.

But yes, the last few elections have shown that when Dems turn out their base, they win.

No, Dems destroying their own was the problem. Cheating Bernie in Cali basically screwed them out of any potential swing voters. They still don't have their act together. NO ONE likes the current Dem platform other than neophytes. A moderate who isn't married to the party line could attract Rep voters who really want someone to save them but don't see any better options across the aisle.

I think theres a decent chance hell lose. Not because hes a bad president, but because theres enough people with irrational hatred of him that theyll oppose him no matter what.

Nanci Pelosi tried to say that low unemployment is a bad thing. And the crazy socialist for New York tried to say that the reason unemployment is so low is because everyone has two jobs.

Its pure nonsense the lengths some people on the left will go to attack Trump. He has enough flaws flowing naturally. There isnt a need to fabricate negatives.

I agree with this but there's still a civil war in the party over ideological purity and identity politics.
My optimism for Trump losing is that he barely won originally, Hillary was absolute trash and the left was arrogant and over confident, and it doesn't look like that will happen again even with a bad or tepid candidate.

Of course he does, the left already shit their pants once strategy-wise so they surely can do it again. Add to that the fact that Liberals did absolutely zero self-evaluation after Trump won and instantly resorted to name calling and hissy fits and you have a recipe for Trump to win again. Even if you believe you're completely in the right when has personal attacks ever caused the other side to change their mind? Stupidity by the left gives Trump a great chance.

Problem is... there's not even a single serious candidate on either side and it's summer 2018. If no one emerges by like... fall or so it won't even matter because they will not have enough time to raise money for a 2020 campaign. This is bad for our country in general. No matter who wins you always want active participation and debate for growth. It's almost a shoe in currently. Incumbents have a huge home field advantage and don't have to work as hard.

So yeah, people are complaining but they will still vote status quo if all things are equal and the economy is good. Well, the economy isn't good... it's great.
