I remember coming on to gamefaqs stating i was done watching after the red wedding and that there was "no point in watching if my favorite characters are just going to keep dying".

Shireen's death hurt more I think though

Red Wedding is the obvious choice, but the Mountain and the Viper ending was brutal even though I knew what was going to happen.

Ned Stark being killed. I read the books after the first season, so that was the big fuck-you moment.

Funnily enough, someone on GameFAQs had actually spoiled it for me way beforehand, but they said that "Boromir was killed." I never watched nor read LotR, so I didn't connect that to Sean Bean and kept waiting for someone named Boromir to show up.

Red Wedding was the most the shocking. Hold the door hit the feels. Viper and Mountain went against the grain the most.

I knew it was going to happen but I still hadn't expected that level of brutality. The way I read it in the books was that it was a fairly quick and shocking event. Not the... drawn out and messy affair in the show.

Probably the closest a TV show has come to making me physically ill actually.

The Night King killing Viserion, resurrecting him and then destroying The Wall with him.

the deaths that were consistent with the books didn't shock me, since I read through all of the released stuff first, so maybe Shireen or Rickon (wasn't expecting another Stark child to die).

Shireen's was worse, though, IMO, since it also ruined Stannis' character.

I read the books, so the Red Wedoing and The Viper vs The Mountain I saw coming (granted they were still done very well).

"Hold the Door" got me really good. Thr fact that a character who could only say one word and was mainly used for comic relief had such a tragic backstory (through no fault of his own) and died a hero's death... Fuck dude.

you sure about that? i don't remember that part. what i do remember is Jaime talking to either Walder or Roose or someone a couple episodes after and talking about "killing a dozen men at dinner", like that's all the red wedding was.

yeah, the season 3 finale starts (or very near the beginning at least) with Robb's body with Grey Wind's head being paraded around the tents
