One of the best RPGs I've played.

Heck one of the best games I've played period.

Did have an issue with the villain and most of the story near the end.

As far as villains go, Eredin was fairly generic.

And the game tosses a ton of worldbuilding and concepts at you near the end and kinda doesn't give you time to process.

Like the White Frost. I read about it in an in game book near the midway point. I kinda knew what it was and that it was bad but its inclusion at the end kinda came outta left field.

Still tho, what a ride.

Doing Hearts of Stone now.

Which love interest did you go with?
I did Yen last time, and was pleasantly surprised with how well the ending of Blood and Wine played into that aspect of the main game.

A friend of mine mentioned the antagonist in Hearts of Stone is amazing. Can't wait to see what it's about.

How long did the play through take? also now you really need to complete the expansions

I started almost 2 weeks ago and played most days.

I'd say probably around 30 hours total? Probably more. Only did the side quests that seemed important though. Dat main quest kept adding stuff on.

Went with Yen. Seemed right given what I knew of the backstory. Got the ending where her an Geralt go off to live in a secluded cabin

Great game overall, especially the DLC. Even several years on, it still hasn't been topped this gen.

Hearts of Stone isn't that long, but it's pretty enjoyable. By the time you finish, you should be in the normal level range to start Blood & Wine, which is WAY more expansive.

I'm not a fan of action RPG combat in general, I much more prefer slow, strategic-focused systems like that of FFX. And yet, I loved this game.

Witcher 3 is pretty much a sequel to the books. It feels almost necessary to have read them to fully understand what's going on with the story. Which is weird because that's not the case with the first two games.

I didn't read any of the books, but I very much felt like I would not have appreciated a lot of the characters nearly as much if I hadn't played the second game.

That's really my only major criticism of Witcher 3. A lot of the returning characters such as Triss, Roche, Ves, Dandelion, and a few others felt really hollow and not well fleshed out. Without the context of Witcher 2's excellent character writing I probably would not have thought much of any of these characters. Ves and Roche were particularly flat in 3.

And they made Triss kind of annoying, which really hurt after Witcher 2 established her as my irl forever waifu

Yea the combat was pretty easy but pretty early on it'd just get so tedious and I just wanted to do the story shit so I figured to hell with it

Both TW3 DLCs are amazing honestly. HoS didn't add as much but has a fantastic story, while B&W could borderline be a standalone game, and has some amazing missions. I got both for pretty cheap on a PSN sale and really loved them both.

Finished the main story myself last night, and see what you mean about throwing a ton at you at the end. I'm having quests pop up and finish before I even know what is going on.

Biggest gripe would be not being able to hide quests in the log. Don't care for gwent or the horse racing, but have to keep scrolling past them to find the few I have remaining. Oh, and the 2 stupid bugged quests in Kaer Morhen.

Time to start the DLC after work tonight.

Level wise yes, but story wise it doesn't matter. There are some subtle changes if you play them before you complete the main game though.

For the wolf gear hunt starter, can't click on the chest to actually start the quest.

And the monster slayer quest. Killed the troll, but it still wants me to click on a drowner body. It glows red in witcher vision, but I can't target it.

According to my notes, the Wolf Gear quest used to break if you visited Kaer Morhen before installing the DLC. However, this should've been patched already. In fact, the region's signal tower should have a special "Pang of Conscience" sword as a memorial to all the past glitchiness and trouble related to the search. Note that the Lindenvale blacksmith also has a copy of Hieronymus' notes to start the quest properly, assuming that's the problem in the first place.

Not sure what's up with Monster Slayer. Did you do the quest stages in their proper (long) order or did you stumble across the cave by accident?

OK, I'll check and see if the blacksmith has what I need. Sword is there, but it leads me to believe there is still a problem. The sword and note respawn if I leave, so can get them again (infinite, if slow, money I guess)

And yes, stumbled upon the cave by accident. Read the letter, search troll's lair, and kill troll all have have green checkmarks. Can't activate the "use witcher sense to find what killing drowners". Unchecked box, without even the red "fail" mark like some of my others where I missed a step.

Edit: Yup, looks like its still busted for me. (ps4 version). No letter at blacksmith (but think I see it in my log, along with the other maps). Got another pang of conscience. Looked it up, and can't even activate the crystal and no other crystal to put in empty spot. Nothing anywhere in or around the yellow circle on the map at the watchtower. Guess its good that I don't really care about the stats on wolf armor anyway. Griffin fits my playstyle perfectly.
