"Waah they only gave me $2 and they're turning around and reselling it for $50!"

So why are you selling it to them?

For starters, $2 is more than $0. You're already getting out with something. If Gamestop didn't exist, you don't get those $2.

Secondly, you could use something like Craigslist, or ebay, or sell it to a friend or something if you really want. Well that takes a lot of work; craigslist can be dangerous, ebay probably price-gouges, and selling to friends means you need someone A.) actually looking to buy said game, and B.) are okay selling to your friend and not succumbing to the "can i just borrow it?" (which is effectively selling it for $0 because you know you're never gonna see it again).

Gamestop may not give you the most bang for your game, but they're there and willing to do it on a moment's notice. Fishing around on craigslist or for friends could take months, and even then you might get, what, $20? $30? Maybe $50 at most if it's like a brand-brand new game that you just don't want.

If you don't like their model, don't support their business. It worked for a while, but if that article about them "looking for a buyout" is any indicator, then people are catching on. The model is no longer sustainable.

Because they have no concept of economics and opportunity costs.

Trading in/selling to GameStop is the quickest and easiest turnaround for games, so of course you are going to get less.

It's a ripoff for you no matter how you justify it and if you partake in that system you're an idiot.

I'm not offended.

It's just an awful business model and GameStop has no one to blame but themselves when the used games stop pouring in and they're forced to sell new copies and share revenue with the publishers.

Eh, considering I'm a guy who likes to replay games, this stuff doesn't bother me.

You might like getting ripped off but most people don't.

Taking advantage of deals, I normally get 70-80% of what they sell it for. It's only a rip off for those who don't look or wait for deals that benefit them.

I don't care about that.

What I dislike about gamestop:

-They sell used controllers, battery packs, and copies of games, labeled as new and at new prices. When the items don't work, they refuse to refund.

-They break games that people bring to trade in, while checking them for damage, then refuse to buy or replace the game, and insist it was brought in broken.

-They give store credit for trade ins, after cash has been specifically requested. When they're asked to correct the mistake, they claim that it wasn't a mistake, and that by signing the screen the customer has agreed to accept store credit.

-They sell used copies of games that are damaged and do not work. When the customer returns for a refund, they claim they don't sell damaged games, and that the customer must have damaged it themselves.

I've seen all of these happen multiple times at multiple stores.

This. The GameStop gave me $2 and sold it for $50 myth is absurd. Even without bonuses/specials, theyll give you $15-25 for anything remotely good

Because people don't understand supply and demand. I'm not defending Gamestop by any means, they are a horrible company to work for, I know from experience. But people trading in Madden from 4 years previous can't expect to get more than a buck for it. No one wants it and it's going to sit on the shelf until it gets sent back to the warehouse.

If you're problem is they only give you $30 for a game that just came out, nothing is stopping you from using Amazon or Ebay and getting $35-$40.
