Please mark spoilers that are farther along in the game than my current progress.

Anyway, I bought it early this year, but only played the first rite and then stopped. I picked it up again last week, and I've played up through the first liberation rite and one more on the 2nd cycle.

I'm once again impressed by Supergiant games. Pyre is seamlessly good. I get sucked into advancing the story several times even after I've decided to quit. It comes in perfectly bite-sized chunks and is always compelling.

The gameplay is fun, too, and satisfying. I'm curious, do you unlock any difficulty option beyond Heightened? I'm having a blast so far, but I'm 9-0 on the highest difficulty and hoping for a little more. I can tell it's going to ramp up as I keep playing multiple cycles, but just curious.

My first time through, the team I settled into was Rukey, Jodariel, and Ti'zo. Rukey's speed and agility feels almost too easy. The first round in each rite is always a quick, virtually automatic goal by him. Then I try to fly one in with Ti'zo, and just implode their whole team if I get blocked, and play defense for a bit with Jodi.

I liberated Ti'zo first. My main three members were the only options, and he was the one I cared least about giving up in terms of the story.

I'll post more later. I just had to talk about this game because I've been enjoying the hell out of it.

It's super fun. The difficulty does randomly spike for specific matches, which was surprisingly frustrating to me the first time it happened

It'll be more challenging when your remaining party doesn't match up well against the opposing team

It is weird to have a game that progresses even when you lose

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

I'm actually not a huge fan of the Tizo plush, I kinda think they dropped the ball on it.

But Pyre is absolutely amazing and my boys Rukey and Sir Gilman <3 I love all the characters though, and I ended up completing the game in the perfect way I wanted.

This is one of the coolest things that they did, in a game full of unique ideas.

Sir Gilman is so silly and awesome. But, yeah, at least for my playstyle? Quickness seems like the most OP stat so far. But I'm still quite early in the game, so that could change.

What is this game similar to? Like, if I like X other games, I might like this? I cannot figure out the genre at all.

How simple/complicated is the battle system? I like games that are simple - i.e. there aren't tons of different options for customization, or dozens of different skills, I prefer games for example where you have a simple 3-hit combo and a handful of skills compared to games where you have 10 different basic attacks and lotsa skills. I don't like having to control tons of things, etc.

Man and the end end of the game, there's so many cool little implications depending on who you have been sending and just, ugh so so good. Obviously I won't spoil them but yea, loved loved loved it.

You have a party of 8 or 9-ish and you choose 3 for each "battle". Each character has a dash, attack, and jump which are all somewhat unique. Controls are pretty basic. The game is heavily narrative-driven. You spend more time in the visual novel parts than the gameplay. I don't know what game to compare it to.

Yes I started to realize the depth of the game after the first liberation, and I'm so very excited to play the rest now.

When I went back to the first area of the game for my 9th rite and Rukey and Jodariel had a conversation about how I chose her suggested path instead of his at the very beginning, I was like "ohhhh man this is just gonna get better and better"

It's a visual novel fantasy basketball rpg.

Each character has a sprint, a jump, an attack, and some general stats (how large they are, how fast they are, how quickly they respawn, etc). But you can really only adjust these stats by equipping items, which each character can only have one of.

So I went in only caring about the visual novel part because stories > gameplay in games for me usually but the actual sport is super fun! Very tough at times but you can get through, and all the upgrades you can attach to characters will make you go "HOLY SHIT THAT'S SO FUCKIN GOOD FOR THEM HOW"

So far, to me, it seems like the idea is to just max out 2 characters, then repeatedly replace the third with whoever suits your fancy each time. I guess that depends on what you value (winning vs. story) and also how far along you are. But for now that's what I'm going with. Jodariel + Rukey + "flavor of the week"

I JUST GOT A MESSAGE FROM TI'ZO

Delivered by imp. From the Commonwealth.

I was not expecting that. At all. Fantastic.

All the party members had something to say about the message.

Best of all, Sir Gilman:

Oft is it said that good things come in smallish packages, and Ti'zo stood as living proof! And living he remains, apparently!!

(double ! part of the actual quote)

Has anyone else ever felt like hitboxes get really wonky when you're near the pyres? Numerous times I've been banished at the last possible moment when I thought I was for sure in, and vice versa.
