That's because it's in bad form to talk shit about the dead. It's part of the reason why you can get modded on gamefaqs for flaming Hitler.

I never understood "don't speak ill of the dead".

Like sure don't speculate or spread rumors since they can't attest/dispute but flat out ignoring concrete information about them... Just doesn't make sense to me.
