Regular monthly outgoings: Rent and bills: 830 Pension contributions: 264.25 Travel: 110 (averaged from annual travelcard) Mobile phone contract: 10 Sports club: 40 Food shopping: 350 Holidays: 375 Savings target: 1,500 Total: 3,479.25

The first thing I did was move out of my old house share into a cheaper one, saving around 50 per month. Then I cancelled my 150 per month gym membership and started going running instead. I still play touch rugby on Saturdays, which is 10 per game.

Recently I was going to buy a red jacket, but then I thought: I dont need a red jacket, Ive got a navy one and its fine. So Ive changed my train of thought about what I really need to spend money on.

What the hell kind of gym costs ~$200 a month?

I used to work with people who used to pay similar for what iirc were pretty fancy gyms. They were from well off families anyway but still, seemed crazy to me. Think it usually includes a personal trainer which bumps the price.

Well shit. You can do that in any city in the US that doesn't have a population of over 100,000 or some shit.

But yeah, of course this article is ridiculous. I was able to buy a house on less than half of that.
