Current Events > I got in a car accident last night

Saw this girl I have a casual thing an hour away, so Im going down the road home, only like 3 minutes from home, its a 4 lane street, so 2 lanes going north. I at first was behind this car who was going a bit slow, then she went to the right lane, so nice I thought I could pass her.
Then before I know it she makes a sharp left from her lane and I go right into her door. My front corner.
At the time of impact I thought she may have been going in an apartment complex or something.
But then no, there was no complex......she clearly was making a U-Turn...but from the outer lane for some reason.

She said "I missed my exit then I don't know, this is my first car accident" she was like 40s or 50.
Cop said she is going to be getting a citation in the mail.

I have avoided alot of almost crashes, this was unavoidable.
Its the equivelant of when you go to change lanes but at the last second realize there is a car next to you, but worse cause for some reason she wanted to do a u-turn from the right lane, across the inner lane in her direction and the opposite direction, and didn't even look in her rear view mirrors.

Lady tried to make a u turn in front of him on the highway. Only way to avoid it it her not being a dumbass.

There's no reason. It's just any chance for insurance to fuck you over.

It's not 100% it'll happen, but it does happen.

I have 3 not at fault accidents on my record. All were caputred on my dash cam as unavoidable and nothing I could have done and my insurance went up. I asked why and they said because I got hit I'm more likely to get hit again. All they care about is screwing the customer over.

Well, everybodys okay. That is definitely ridiculous, though. I hate when people try to use the whole road without checking the other lane. Im really paranoid about driving next to other people because drivers in my town are very unpredictable.

I saw a car change lanes to hard once that it went on two wheels.

When I was learning to drive, my dad uttered the most spot-on words I've ever heard from him:

"The most dangerous thing about driving isn't speed. Or ice. Or rain... it's other people."

Fucking brilliant. Sticks with me every time I drive. Never drive parallel with someone else, always leave space, never do anything even CLOSE to other people if possible. I will speed up to 75-80 to pass someone rather than staying at ~70 because it means I can get away from them sooner.

Driver tried to make a left hand turn from the right lane while traffic was in left lane. TC was the driver in the left lane.

well if they signaled to get into his lane for the U turn, and he saw her coming, had a reasonable amount of time to let her in, and refused to slow down for her, it could partially be his fault

I'm genuinely curious as to how that makes him look bad? It would mean that she started her turn while he was beside her.
I'm assuming this is what happened;

Where TC is the car on the left and the other driver is the car that was in the right lane.

I don't see how that could possibly be his fault?

Your diagram is how I was picturing it too. Common sense-wise, it's not his fault. Insurance-wise, TC has an unfavorable point of impact because he had more view of the road. That woman's adjuster will primarily argue based off that point, unless the statements indicate other negligence on TC or the woman's parts. If I were TC's adjuster I would argue that the woman is proximate cause, had she not turned the accident wouldn't have happened. I could see it being 60-70% fault of the woman, and 30-40% of TC, now that I think about it. I'd be surprised if he had zero fault in this accident (unless he has one of a couple insurance companies I'm thinking of)

Any adjuster can make any argument. I've been defending the guy in TC's position before and it went well, but my customer was still partially at fault. Without footage you basically have to go by hearsay and damage photos, which sucks. I'm curious to hear the story in detail from TC and I can give him a better idea.

With footage tproving TC had no time to react, he'd definitely be 0% at fault.

insurance companies don't distinguish between the wronged and the guilty. everyone's rates go up. just because they rank each person as a liability.
