When CW tries topical it comes off like the writers never saw a news source that wasn't buzzfeed. All the shows suffered this year, but overall in order for me: 1) Legends: it knows what it is: an ensemble comedy. Relax, turn your brain off, ejoy, hail Beebo. 2) Flash: tries to be fun. Season 1 still the best example of cheesy quality with enough misdirect I didn't know what was coming at some points, which is refreshing for a long time comics fan. 3) Arrow: Still in that "not-Batman" mode which can be good with enough suspension of disbelief, but all the forced and repeated "SECRETS AND LIES" drama is long past tiresome (seriously, these writers have trust issues) 4) Supergirl: It can get it right from time to time, but bad politics and worse romantic subplot drama, and I think I liked the Legion best this year. 5) Black Lightning: while still finding its feet, this one infuriates me with an inconstant tone between a poignant look at a black man trying to save his community only to not see the success he wants due to those he's trying to help falling into bad habbits, and the topical confederate statues and "make America Great Again" strawmen villains lacking any sense there should even be nuance. Season 1 still the best example of cheesy quality with enough misdirect I didn't know what was coming at some points, which is refreshing for a long time comics fan. 3) Arrow: Still in that "not-Batman" mode which can be good with enough suspension of disbelief, but all the forced and repeated "SECRETS AND LIES" drama is long past tiresome (seriously, these writers have trust issues) 4) Supergirl: It can get it right from time to time, but bad politics and worse romantic subplot drama, and I think I liked the Legion best this year. 5) Black Lightning: while still finding its feet, this one infuriates me with an inconstant tone between a poignant look at a black man trying to save his community only to not see the success he wants due to those he's trying to help falling into bad habbits, and the topical confederate statues and "make America Great Again" strawmen villains lacking any sense there should even be nuance.
