So I went golfing for the first time in like a decade last week. Though I obviously had my fair share of shots in which the chunk of grass went further than the ball, but I also had a surprising number of legit quality shots.

One of which on hole 1, where I could've gone around a big tree (woulda taken two shots to get to green), OVER the big tree, or threw a pretty small window between the leaves and the ground. I chose to go over the tree and absolutely crushed it. Cleared the tree with room to spare, putting me on the green in two shots (of course my short game is absolute trash so I still double bogey'd, but still).

So I guess my question is, is there like a good "rookie set" of clubs I can get? I know golf is an expensive hobby, so I really don't want to break the bank. At the same time, I think it'd be fun to pick it up again.

I would suggest checking out a used sporting goods store. Some of them even have new stuff at discount prices because they recieved overstock from companies. I paid about $150 for my first set at a sporting goods store. About 20 years after I bought them, the bag is still in great shape but I had to replace over half the clubs. I usualy will replace the clubs I need with ones I find at a used sporting goods store or sometimes at rummages.

Heh. I havent swung a club in 15 years. I do have a set. My dad bought them from Sams Club. I dont know if they still have them.

You could look at pawn or second hand shops.

How about you fedex them to me (on your dime) and we'll call it a day

would pawn shops likely have a full set, or is it a kind of thing where id just have to scout a few clubs here and there and just kinda piecemeal the whole thing together?

If I were to walk into a Dick's asking for this exact set, would they need time to get me sized properly and order a new set of clubs to fit my specs? (I'm 5'8'', pretty generic build, so I doubt I'll be needing anything custom)

One of the most common height range for stores to have sets for are for people 5'8"-6 feet.

I got most of my clubs handed down and then been replacing them with clubs I found at Ollies and the used racks at Golf Galaxy over the past 10 years.

I have an eclectic set of clubs in my bag that includes a 1 and 2 iron...
