"A large medical convention that has been coming to San Francisco since the 1980s is looking for a new host city because of the dirty streets and the homeless issue plaguing the area, according to San Francisco Travel, the city's convention and visitors bureau.

They are very worried what this could mean for the hotels in San Francisco and all the businesses touched by tourism dollars when the big conventions come in town.

"When these things leave, it affects all of us--the taxi, the hotel, the restaurant," Hotel Council of San Francisco Executive Director Kevin Carroll said. "We need to be concerned."

SF Travel does not want to name the five-day trade show that draws 15,000 attendees and pumps about $40 million into the local economy because they are hoping to lure them back in the future. The convention told SF travel "that they loved the city, but post-convention surveys revealed their members were afraid to walk the streets amid the open drug use, threatening behavior and mental illness that are common on the streets."

I could've sworn liberals, like the ones in charge in SF, more or less ran on a platform of helping those in need. Surely the problem can't be that bad if the liberals are there to help them? Unless... maybe they don't actually care...?

the homeless problem in san Francisco is because of all the getrification, all the rich fucks did this.

like 2/3 homeless people in San Fran had homes in the last 3 years.

A lot of homeless people around here but they dont bother the average pedestrians aside from asking them for money. You'll also see a bunch of expensive cars parked in heavily poor areas but they never get vandalized. This city is basically trying to get rid of the middle class. You're either rich making 6 figures at a tech job and own a home in the city or you're poor and end up like the rest on the streets. Those middle class workers are ending up in either side of the scale with inflation.

So that basically eliminates any major west coast city from their list.

We just need some 15 degree winters like those cheaters on the east coast get.

There's a bunch of homeless in any business or tourist spots in SF especially near their big tech firms.

I go up to San Francisco about twice a year for vacation and I don't think it's THAT bad. Like yeah, there's homeless people on a lot of the streets and occasionally they do some pretty crazy things, but it's not like SF is devolving into some lawless barren wasteland overrun with homeless people on the streets while the rich live in huge towers.

The homeless population is present, it's a thing you have to acknowledge and deal with, but you can still 100% enjoy the city for what it is. My preferred mode of transportation around SF is walking so it isn't even like I'm trying to really avoid the whole situation either.

That being said, I do think it's a thing that San Francisco should really go out of its way to address. Hoping all of the negative publicity about this issue as of late helps them generate some action.
