The shooting took place at 9 a.m. at Sunrise Point Elementary School in Overland Park. The two people shot were contracted workers at the school, according to Overland Park Police Public Information Officer John Lacy. The gunman, also a contracted employee, argued with the two men before opening fire, according to Lacy. Police told the Kansas City Star that the victims are construction workers who were doing a job at the playground outside school. There were no children in the school at the time of the shooting. There were about 5 to 6 people there, according to Lacy. After the shooting, the suspect made two attempts to carjack a vehicle, and the second one was successful, according to Lacy. Cops believe the suspect is driving a black Denali. Shots were fired during the first carjacking attempt, according to the Star, but no one was injured.
