I know there's a lot of outrage because of these oppressive dictators you hear about in the middle east, but just keep an open mind.

First, not every dictator has to be some evil overlord

Secondly, a lot of the problems in this country are caused by bloated bureaucracy. Look at the ACA. The amount of bloat, complication and paperwork people need to go through just to get $30 off your next $50,000 hospital visit is fucking outrageous.

People want change, but how long does it take to get these changes enacted through the bloated system? 5 years? 10 years? What good is that

If we had a dictator a lot of these issues would be solved

Look at Californian labor laws as another example. Ever see the encyclopedias of laws created just to make sure some minimum wage worker is paid $50.62 for the week instead of $49.78? It's fucking outrageous

In the scenario described above, we don't need crippling and convoluted laws that no one understands and increase taxes and overhead costs by %5000 just to make sure some guy gets another buck on the paycheck.

Instead, we need someone to say 'look, you're getting paid $50 for the week. end of story'. And if he doesn't like it there's a spot in prison with his name on it

Dictator didn't always used be a negative word. The Romans in the Republic era, would in timee of crisis elect a dictator to lead then out of the crisis and then step down. They were treated like national heroes

Even if you do end up with a benevolent dictator (doubt it), they can't rule forever. When they eventually go, there'll be plenty wanting to fill the void, and they certainly won't all have good intentions. Not that I think even a benevolent dictator would be a good thing. How do you even measure that before they're in power anyway? Once they're in and enacting their agenda you might be able to, but by then it's too late.

Well, what a benevolent dictator could do is impose a constitution on a country that sets the stage for a good-functioning democracy respectful of human rights, and make sure that no one will ever be a dictator after him.

just by sheer statistical probability, a fair number has to be good rulers.
then add in the ones that were reportedly well-liked by the people at the time.
