Its weird which languages have cognates and not.

German is funny for a language similar to English. Lots of compound words. The sentence structure is particularly strange coming from an English background.

According to https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Bauernhof , "Bauern" means "boors" and "Hof" means "yard".
