It is amazing how well it holds up still,

But it is still overrated for what it is, wtf.

I just made it to the reverse castle, and lol wtf, I got some things to say.

The difficulty balance is so poorly done that rikter was doing 1 damage to me, and all I did was pick up the shit along the way with zero grinding. I also managed to kill him in like 7 hits to.

The game isn't long. Long for Castlevania, but short compared to something like hollow knight

It seems like all weapons are meh with niche exceptions, compared to the stabby weapons. The baselard can carry you up to the jewel fist, then the holy rod, then the combat knife. They just hit faster than everything else and obliterate mobs and bosses with nothing to compare. You don't even need the invincible free teleport and high damage spells. I don't even see the point of the mp meter as barely anything complete it.

Bosses are jokes overall.

I can see why this game was great, and still is. However, I don't see how people go on and on about how this game outclasses everything. It has to many flaws.

You get the Crissaegrim. Just hold the attack button and you can run through the castles while it slices everything in your path.

You gotta keep hitting the button, and there is a split around cool down time.

I used to dual wield them. Alternate button presses for constant slicing action.

Of course it's a great game. But it came out twenty years ago for goodness sake. Of course it's gonna seem a bit thin and unpolished in places. Just imagine where that series would be by now.

Speaking of which, anybody else psyched for Bloodstained?

Alucard is so much more versatile than Soma that it isn't a fair comparison. He is much more fun than Soma, and farming souls is alot more boring than starting off with am overpowered movesets.

Soma game is alot harder though, but that isn't saying much.

I made it to the reverse castle, and I have to say, this game is alot of fun, but is incredibly easy. Most things can't hurt me, and since I picked up the windsword, I can choose if I want to fight my enemy or not. I don't understand how people can say this game is the best of the Metroidvania genre. Hollow knight is the superior game

Not trashing the game, but I really hate nostalgia and how it stupifies people.

I looked at the art style and wow. I remembered how people was bitching about the looks and I thought they was joking. It truly is an ugly looking game, which is surprisingly meaningful as atmosphere is a significant part of this franchise. They need to fix that, as playing this game reminds me why I love Castlevania.

I don't even use mist. The knife strikes so fast that I just blitz through bosses and mobs, and then I discovered hell fire by accident so I just rekted things with it.

They play nothing alike, assuming super Metroid is like fusion. At best, the exploring around for new locations along with the hallway progression structure are similar.

Sorry but like I said, one is an action RPG and the other is not. That makes these two games worlds apart. Do you think SotN will be just as good if there wasn't any RPG aspects to it? Also one is a hack and slash and the other is a shooters. They are more different.

Grinding was pretty much tacked on, and not really needed with all health-ups laying around.
Same goes for most of the weapons laying around.

I can't enjoy SotN like I can enjoy SM. They are just too different. In Castlevania games I like grinding for items, souls and leveling up. I like using different weapons for different effects. SM is a run and gun shooters. There's literally not much you can get from killing mobs other than just refilling life and missiles.

Having overpowered weapons was kind of what made it fun tbh.

About the point where you are in the game, you start turning into an unstoppable death machine. To the point that it's freaking hilarious. There are some bosses up ahead that die in like half a second if you're using certain weapons and etc etc.

It feels exactly like the Castlevanias, they were never the fastest games, at least until you got the right equipment/skills. Probably looks slower due to the (admittedly terrible) artstyle.
