Probably because it feels good. People tend to think they'll do it once, or twice, but they usually end up in a situation where they have access to it too easily. Sometimes they buy too much, they think they'll get high for a day or two and then slowly start adding days. Maybe they're around it too much, or maybe they got cut off from prescription meds like opioids or Ritalin. Another huge mistake I've seen is when someone shoots up either. They can't seem to understand why they haven't lived with that intense feeling and want more, bad. It's very sad actually. Most people don't get immediately hooked to something like h, but once they shoot up, that's more times than not a point of no return.

I'm not going to lie, I've tried both, a few times. H just wasn't my cup of tea I guess, it wasn't bad perse but not worth pursuing. Cocaine on the other hand I could've easily ended up addicted to. After your first time, you want more so you buy some. Once you do that, you realize, the high lasts an hour or two but it's just not as intense after the first 15 minutes. You find yourself losing track of time, and soon your half gram or gram is gone in a day or less. So you start maybe getting another in a week or for some asap, but it's gone again and you start trying to get more more often luckily for me, I realized fast that I was just going to get addicted fast this way, and stopped completely. I did waste a decent bit of money(not too much) and I'd never do it again. I got lucky, I was close to being in a very bad bad place.

Honestly, I got lucky in the end and sincerely hope that none of you try either of these. Even if you think you can handle it, you slip once and go too far, game over.

This.

July 4th will be 1 year clean (pills with a steady script). I do Kratom now every once in a while. It's ok sometimes but not the same.

Kratom is fucking GREAT. Keep in mind I do it very sparingly and have never done any drugs like cocaine or heroin, but when my back is in a particular amount of pain I break out the Kratom and do about 15 grams and it takes the pain away completely.

I do not think it's a coincidence that foolish, weak people tend to be the ones with substance abuse issues. It's a pattern of poor decision making and a lack of willpower that creates a perfect storm for that behaviour to manifest.

People blame it on mental illness... well, I'm bipolar 1 (officially diagnosed) and have never been plagued with a drug or alcohol addiction. I'm too proud to let myself become a tweaked out monster that brings shame upon my family.

My great-grandfathers didn't get wounded on the Western Front then return to work just so I could wimp out and sit at home intoxicated all day.

Everybody has a story, but that doesn't mean it's an excuse. Many people have made delicious lemonade from very awful lemons. We're just a soft culture now.

Why? Aren't you just enabling more weak people by working at charities? I mean, what sort of soft culture makes people volunteer their personal time and energy to help others who could just help themselves? After all, you have a story and so do the people you are helping, it doesn't mean they deserve an extra hand anymore than you.

Honest truth from the truth bringer; cocaine and heroin are not dangerous drugs. You only realize this when you take them, get super high, then are perfectly ok the next day. These drugs are no different than any other drug, they are highly addictive due to the feeling of euphoria it gives but if you take them every once in awhile and don't abuse them you can live a normal life. It sounds crazy but it's the truth, it's all propoganda.

Cocaine is nowhere close to the level of addictiveness of heroin. It's like comparing an angry toddler to Brock Lesnar.

Not saying it isn't bad, but heroin is like the end of the road. You either die or quit.

I haven't read this thread but going into it, cocaine doesn't sound appealing to me (I hate uppers) but heroin, from the accounts I've read, sounds frightening. It's soul sucking, permanently changes your brain chemistry, and creates the most euphoric, mentally clear, positively sound and vibrant feeling and experience for every action you take. And, yet, it is the worlds most addictive substance. You simply can't quit, it poisons you to death slowly, turns you into a husk of a person -- practically an emaciated zombie -- and, yet, even then, in the darkness of some alley you take a hit and your old self comes back yet, ironically, trapped in its personal hell.

Fuck. That.

Probably because they feel amazing to take, if only fleetingly.

A few years back I cut my hand badly and needed stitches, hurt like hell around the clock. My mom had some leftover prescription painkillers from a surgery she had, I can't remember what they exactly what they were, so she gave gave me them. I took one, and went from my hand hurting all the time to my entire body feeling amazing. I took another the next day when my hand hurt again, same thing.

I really, really wanted to take another the next day, even though the pain didn't even compare to the first day, but I resisted because I knew it was me wanting amazing sensation far more than needing to manage the pain. Not everyone can make that decision, addiction is powerful.

This would definitely deter me from heroin if I wasn't already introduced to some of the strongest shit available in hospitals due to being a terminally ill patient dealing with chronic pain.

I never understood why people used heroin either, and then I had to get a knee reconstruction. When I woke up I was on IV morphine, and it was, and still is, the greatest I have ever felt in the world. Do you know those Corona adds that have that sun-kissed "filter" on them? That's how I remember it - the world was warm, sunny and I just felt incredible.

I can understand people chasing that feeling. It truly was the greatest I have ever felt.

When I did coke for the first time I was in Vegas, staying at the Luxor on the 20th floor and I remember just looking out over Vegas as the sun was setting, I was in nice clothes and ready to go out, and I just felt like a fucking king.

yeah I had my ankle reconstructed and I was so fucked up at the hospital. I was shitfaced when I broke it, then they gave me morphine in the ambulance, then the anesthesia, then a 30mg perc when I woke up, then 15mg more every 3 hours for 2 weeks. I forgot the whole day after the surgery.

i hope that is the wake up call that gets her off the drug. losing someone to that is very sad :(.

my brother's ex girlfriend does the heroin and i worry that my niece who lives with her parents will have to face that same reality if her mother OD's from that drug, sadly that one day she had the chance to learn that lesson has passed. think she still does heroin.

Its cool to see someone who gets it.

On the flip sidewhen you come off of these opiates, almost everything you do irritates you, is a chore, or is just overall unenjoyable. This lasts for months after the physical withdrawal. Unless you can completely distance yourself, or switch up your setting and surroundings, its often why people fall right back into it. The psychological aspect of being hooked is often times worse than the physical.

I almost caught a felony charge for prescription fraud for opiates - reduced it to a misdemeanor by agreeing to go to rehab and doing a year of basically unsupervised probation. As long as I could pass a drug test I was fine. Hell, the county-level probation I had to do for a weed possession charge was stricter than the state-level probation I did for the script fraud. Guess it really depends on the PO - the girl I had for the opiate charge was young and idealistic, and could see that I was a dumb kid that made a stupid mistake but had a bright future. The people in county probation were more like bureaucrats, disillusioned with their jobs.

I tried coke because people around me kept insisting. There was a girl I liked and I just shurged my shoulders and did it. Fortunately she gave me a high dose and I reacted bad to it. I never liked coke after that and never dared doing it again. I see the appeal but most people arent aware of the lasting side effects.

They know its bad but dont understand how bad it is.
