Is it safe? As a drunkard my concern with getting one is that I'll burn down my place.

about as safe as putting oil in a pot and deep frying things normally.

just dont knock it over or put giant frozen things in it lol

it'd say the electric ones are safer cuz if you fuck up and oil bubbles out of a pot on a fire stove, the fire will cause the oil to catch flame. with an eletric deep fryer, it just makes a hot mess, literally.

Deep fryers are great but the downside is having to replace the oil and clean it.

If you don't, your place is gonna stink the next time use it and it really sucks. I know from experience <_<

My sister got me one for Christmas and I've only used it twice since then. It's real hard to find reasons to actually use it, especially when I already have a dutch oven and a cast iron skillet deep enough to fry most foods I want to fry.

They're great. I don't have one currently but had and used one a ton at my old place. You can get away without one but having heat controls instead of relying on a thermometer is nice. Just make sure you filter the oil often instead of just letting it sit in the fryer weeks on end.

I would consider other kitchen gadgets first though and if you're trying to eat healthy, just avoid it. If you don't already have pressure cooker or a sous vide, or a rice maker, those would take precedence in my book.

Haha I've been looking up different things that I could potentially deep fry and apparently deep fried pb & j sandwiches is a thing. I need try that.

You can also get a deep cast iron dish/skillet which you could use for lots of other things besides deep frying.

I just had an idea

take white bread, but remove the crust and make a kind of homemade uncrustable thing with it

then dip it in some kind of buttermilk thing....crush some frosted flakes up, and roll it in that...then deep fry it

bet thats p good...or maybe just have PB in it, then dip them in the J that way you don't have hot J which is somewhat offputting imo
