I think it was the cutscene where the player is tasked with staring at a Slowpoke that turned me off to the game.
Kudos to Gamefreak for trying to add more in-game events and interactions with Pokemon in the overworld.
But this cutscene is literally the player being asked to stare at a Slowpoke. Followed by a 10-15 second clip of the player doing just that.
How is that supposed to be fun?


I think this is the big misunderstanding when I say "look at what pokemon looks like for the next 15 years"

It's not the throwing the pokeball, it's not the lack of wild battles, it's the fact that game freak has consistently shown they don't understand what makes their game fun, and more important, what makes their game tedious as hell.

Look at the jump from s/m to us/um what did they give us? They just jam packed it with more interruptions, more ways to artificially slow down the game, the game has been jam packed with so many tedious forced cutscenes about friendship, teamwork, and how to play pokemon. USUM had 10 different cutscenes that had a guy stroking his mustache talking about "hmmmm... light is a good thing....more research needs to be done...." The last trial in US/UM is literally "uhh I dunno just fly around and do all the trials again I guess"

The games are constantly rounding down edges, which is fine for a lot of games, make them playable for beginners by all means. But pokemon has been doing it so long, there's just no edges left. Even in a nuzlocke run, I suspect this is going to be more of a Kanto Walking simulator than anything else.

It's not just that let's go looks boring, it's that it looks soulless. Remember my Kanto topic? Things can change in regions. Things can grow with their hardware. There are thousands of opportunities to explore by remaking Kanto, but to just recreate it on a 1-1 grid, completely flat, with the same four buildings in every town? It's just a good way to say "Eh we don't really care" Pewter town is on the top of a mountain, and pallet town is at sea level, is it really THAT hard to give a sense of elevation between the two? I'm all for game freak trying to make bold changes, but if you watched the actual interview in the treehouse the focus of the game was "to make it easier for people, help long time fans ease back into the series" bitch I was 10 when these games came out, and I figured it out then without someone stopping me every 10 minutes to explain the mechanics, you think I can't figure it out as a 30 year old?

So yeah, this is absolutely what we're going to see in future games. Maybe not mechanics wise, but certainly content and overall effort wise, pokemon is done being fun.

So much negativity.
It's a game for a more casual crowd to try to get people that played Pokemon Go interested in a Switch. Not the end of the world, especially with the mainline one coming next year.

This is fair (it's why I disliked X/Y, and also why I haven't gotten around to Sun/Moon). But it's not Let's Go's fault.
