It was a complete meh. Definitely not as good as its reviews. Beginning was really good with its mystery and a hint of horror but then again those two category always go hand and hand. Shit starts to suck when they go into the Shimmer. It sucks like that one movie starring Mark Wahlberg about plants and trees causing people to suicide. That's kinda like what happens when they went into the Shimmer. They go crazy, their body changes, plants and shit evolves blah blah blah. Horrible IMO and they never resolve what was the real cause of the Shimmer.

Thoughts? Opinions? Comments?

At the start there is a "thing" that crashes into the lighthouse. It is supposed to be an alien.

They do resolve what the Shimmer was. Alien life form crashed on the planet and was in the process of terraforming, I thought.

Kinda looks like a missile more than a meteorite so it leads me to believe it is man made.

This is literally a Doctor Who plot from the 70s:

Well you can't infer that the spot where all of the ending happened was something alien instead of manmade, so I guess your opinion on the movie is worthless

I guess the underlying theme of the movie is "self-destruction" and they do try to explain it and justify it in the movie but there's really not a lesson or a moral thing to learn from IMO. As I said, it was as bad as The Happening.

I really enjoyed it.

Eerie, aesthetically great and with a few provocative points thrown in.

I haven't seen it, but I can't imagine it's better than the franchise it liberally took from.

They didn't want to make the full book series into a film series so they just rewrote it to the point where it wasn't sensical anymore. Then people try to see hidden meaning due to the rewritten version no longer containing any of the former plot threads.

The theme about cancer in the movie is super strong and clear. There not being a moral 'point' to the movie directly ties into that.

Also, it was a great step in the right direction for people who are supposedly hungry for diversity in film. It was a dominantly female cast who all played strong roles, but no one cared because it wasn't pandered to. The movie not treating the audience like idiots was also very enjoyable. I'm not sure I liked it as much as Ex Machina, but because they are such different movies I'd probably just put them on similar ground.

move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. Have sheep troopers squadrons A and B flank the cows. They're using DC-17 hoof blasters.

I felt like they were going for the "You have no room to talk because you're just as fucked up as I am" route. No moral points in this movie for damn sure.

The concept of a mimic being so authentic that it even mimics the doubt of whether it is a mimic or not was also very interesting to me. The director must have a thing for characters having identity crises.

The subplot with the affair is definitely the strangest part of the movie.

I thought the first 2/3rds of the movie was good, but then it fell apart in the last act.

You should check out The Island if you like this kind of shit.

Another part of the theme of "self-destruction" I feel. I think it is implied her husband took the suicide mission was because he found out.

Beyond the weird drug trip ending I thought it was awesome. Not as good as Ex Machina but still awesome. 8.5/10
