me and my buddy were drinking all night

our last conversation we were talking about Goodfellas and how great of a movie it is blah blah blah

I come home, pass out, go on Youtube and it's my recommended section wtffffffffffffffff. We did not look up a video once. Didn't google it once. This shit is crazy.

Probably coincidence but my girlfriend had this same thing happen to her a few hours ago. It freaked her out

i actually listened to a podcast about this in which the hosts were convinced of this too.

one started doing a lot of research, specifically on Facebook (as in talking to people at Facebook). what he discovered is that they don't actually listen (that's illegal); HOWEVER, they use location data and also the interests of your friends to judge what you might be interested in. SO, if your friend happened to look up Goodfellas or something like that, and the internet is aware that the two of you were together for a period of time (and also friends on Facebook, have each other's phone numbers, etc.), they're going to guess that you might also be interested in Goodfellas. this information is all passed between YouTube, Facebook, and everything else so it's not a big surprise tbqh
