Does she even want a ring? I didn't, but my (now) husband insisted. I rarely wear it now because it is such a pain (sometimes literally).

Is she a jewelry person? Not all women are.

Don't go into debt to buy a ring. If she wants to be your wife, she won't want you to do that.

It's the meaning behind the ring and the thought that counts, not the price tag.

So get her one of those cheap plastic rings with the heart on it like Bill and Ted did! It worked for them!

Plz post her reaction after.

What kind of budget are you talking about, credit or not? A ring doesn't have to be expensive or huge. Get a smaller one, tell her you'll get a better one later? A silver setting vs. gold is cheaper, for example, and the .... .925 type silver doesn't tarnish. Small diamond but other pretty gemstones surrounding it so it's impressive in that sense?

Any jewelry type fairs in your area? Could make it a couple thing and go to one of those and have her pick out something nice. You can sometimes get good deals at such fairs on the expensive/fancy lines, they're not all about cheap stuff.

I dunno tho...I wasn't the type who cared/wanted a ring, we just got married in a small park ceremony that lasted 5 minutes and then we had a BBQ and everyone played Frisbee. :P

It really depends on your girl's tastes and your value of spending money on a ring.

In my situation (which I will admit is not common), I went with the cheapest ring I could find. I bought an engagement ring/wedding band set on Amazon. Together, they cost less than $500. I then took my wife to a local jewelry store to get it sized for her. I also managed to keep our wedding cost under $1000.

All the money that I could have put on those two things we instead put on a downpayment for a house and we're doing much better because of it. But in my case, my wife was fully on board with these decisions as she valued our long-term investment more than the allure of a ring and a wedding.

Follow his method of doing things.

If she wants big expensive Mortgage inducing Wedding Ring, you might want to rethink if she's worth it long term!!!

We just bought 2 $10 silver wedding bands. lol. It's funny tho, after a while those cheap bands had such sentimental value that when my husband misplaced his after a swim one day, he was very distressed and spent quite a while in the pool hunting for it even tho he could have just gone and bought another cheapie silver ring. I find that memory 10000x more lasting than if he had spent 3 months salary on a bejeweled engagement ring.

My father actually made my mother her wedding set. Bought a small diamond then made the rings/setting from scratch. Mom prized it because of the work and thought that went into it. There are places you can do that as a more commercial customer venture, these days, I think.

that a good idea. 500 dollars for the set wow.

i know people online are advocating against diamonds and instead saying get moissanite gems cuz they look just like it. but im afraid thatll come off as cheap lol.

yeah shes never talked about a big big wedding. she just wants a small one with family. i think a wedding like you said would be great lol. but maybe the ceremony in a church.

I bought my fiance a cushion cut diamond solitaire on a yellow gold setting. This was exactly what she wanted.

I wanted to spend enough such that it would provide enough pop and sparkle, but avoid monthly payments. We get married next year and it feels good to know that her ring was paid off as soon as I bought it (the gold setting was custom made, so I had to wait for like 8 weeks for it to come in).
