The commonly agreed upon turning point of the war between Russia and Germany happened in the winter of 1941. historians debate this to some degree. kursk (1943) was arguably a more significant victory than stalingrad. stalingrad broke german momentum, but kursk broke the back of their entire military doctrine. but you're absolutely right that overlord (1944) was not a determinator in soviet success in the east. if anything, it was an effort to stymie overall soviet gains of influence post-war. --- And when the hourglass has run out, eternity asks you about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not. ... Ww2, the Germany was ready first, British and french forces weren't ready, as were the Soviets and Americans. Nobody was ready for the hideki tojo either, he banzai'd the hell out of people.
