Being a little bit prejudiced, based on first impressions, doesn't automatically make everyone a racist in some way.

A racist is someone who either shows, thinks, or feels that other "races" (of the same human species) are somehow inferior to their own in any way.

I don't believe in ideological litmus tests for friends. Plus the word "racist" has been tossed around so carelessly these days as to lose all meaning while, ironically enough, not being applied to *actual* examples of racism such the pro-segregation anti-cultural appropriation movement which has the same "keep them separate, keep them pure" attitude that's scarily reminiscent of the KKK.

Plus if it's a matter of just "finding out," it means that they aren't overtly racist which suggests that it's probably just a liberal whose problematic views regarding race drive their leftward-leaning tendencies (ie, viewing minorities as being inherently inferior to whites). Anything else I imagine I'd know long beforehand.

Well said. I wouldn't be eager to discuss racial issues with them, but we could still bond over other things.

If my friend was locked up for child molestation I would be visiting them weekly because that's what a friend is to me. That said I'm not going to go out of my way to be friends with a child molester.

The same way I'm probably going to get into arguments with my friend that gets a swastika tattoo.

This is America, people are entitled to believe whatever they want. Just because I don't respect the opinion itself doesn't mean I don't respect the fact that they have it. I can only ask that they respect that I have opinions as well. So what, just because we disagree on something we can't be friends, what are we children?
So long as they don't go around committing hate-crimes or doing things like that, then I don't care what they think.

I've no problem cutting ties with people whose beliefs I find particularly distasteful, especially if they happen to be irrational beliefs. You disagree with me on economics? Fine. You think that you're inherently superior because you're white/have a penis/whatever despite evidence to the contrary? Not only are you a douche, but you're a factually incorrect douche. I may try to direct them to evidence, but if they double down, I've got nothing else to say to them.
