Aside from members of the weasel family cats are pound for pound among the best mammalian fighters in the animal kingdom. They have the claws on top of the teeth.

At 136 lbs my dog could easily kill a house cat but wouldn't get away unscathed, and her breed was bred to take on wild boars. I remember a story of a Dogo Argentino protecting a group of kids by killing a cougar.

I guess it depends on the ability of the dog in question, some breeds are naturally better able to fight (i.e terriers, bulldogs, mastiffs etc).

For this to be fair, you'd need a different animal in the cat kingdom to fight a 50 pound dog. I think for it to be fair, a smaller dog vs a cat would be wise and depending on the upbringing and all that, I think either side could honestly win. The cat however, does have its claws as an advantage that would probably sway likelihood for the victory.

You know, the muscle density and distribution is far different. Predators are generally equipped via an evolutionary arms race with their food rather than fights against other predators. They typically leave each other alone.

Dogs are going to have bite force and top speed. Cats are going to have everything else. Dogs are still likely going to take every fight simply because of their bold nature and pack mentality, whereas cats are skittish. Just look at how hyenas fuck up lions all the time

Nope and there have been plenty of real examples which prove that wrong. A 600 pound grizzly would fuck up any big cat the same size, a cat can't get it's claws or fangs through the grizzly's thick fur long enough to do serious damage before the bear breaks it.
