It was a bad show.

The people complaining about the new one are either

- too young to remember it and are bandwagoning what youtubers say
- actually liked the 2011 version
- nostalgia

The funny thing is, the old version is exactly what people complain that this new version is. The old one was a lazy, ugly 24 minute toy commercial that the creators didnt care too much about because it was just to sell toys. Exactly like this new one is. Same with nearly every other franchise from the 80's. Original Thundercats was a pretty dumb show.

It was OK. i most fondly remember it as that thing Toonami ran next to Dragon Ball Z & Sailor Moon, though.

The old was dece. The 2011 reboot was fantastic though.

How old were some of you when you were watching? I fucking loved the show, but I was probably 7 or 8 when I was watching.

I never watched Thundercats, He-Man, or G. I. Joe. Cartoons with more "realistic" attempts at humans and stuff didn't appeal to me at all. I watched pretty much only Loony Tunes and TMNT.

i did see the remake but i only thought the first 2 episodes of the remake were all that great.

When I was a kid I was more into Transformers/GI JOE. I thought Thundercats was a b grade show although MumRas chant was cool as shit. Still it was better than Silverhawks.

When I tried watching it on Toonami years later I only could stomach the episodes that advanced the overall plot. Thankfully, Toonami did a run of only those eps at one point.

Meh... I understand the appeal but lets not pretend there was anything to the old cartoon beyond the fact that they looked cool as action figures.

It was fairly popular around here. Silly, sure, but what kids show isn't. Dismissing things as a toy commercial ignores that to sell the toys, you usually had to make the character interesting and their situation cool, and you can accidentally get a decent foundation for something good later when there's less focus on the toys. Sure, Vultureman isn't going to win any prizes for "great ideas in TV" and Snarf was designed by the same mindset that gave us Scrappy Doo, but Lion-O did have a proto hero's journey / inexperienced ruler coming into his role thing going.

The new one, look, this is a fight between tone of a show, and it isn't new. Roar just seem to be made for the idiots that somehow in the infinite possibilities of the universe, think that the comedic "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" most of us want to forget was superior to the Saturday Morning "Sonic the Hedgehog" that spawned a 300 issue comic run.
