So like obviously he isn't paying 36 million dollars, but is 2k hours of community service and some apology letters really sufficient?

What was CE's reaction

i hope he has to work all his life in an effort to repay it back, and that his children and future descendants will bear his burden.

He was also ordered to write apology letters to 152 people

This part of the punishment means nothing. Imagine you receiving a letter from a defendant who was ordered to do so. It would be an empty apology.

As for ordering him to pay 36 million, I first laughed. Then, laughed a bit more. After the laughing stopped, I thought "Will this punishment take away any hope he had for a bright future? Any money he makes will be garnished and given to the court." Then I was like "Well, he did fuck up royally, so it only makes sense for the punishment to fit the crime."

I'm ok with it.

If that was the case your life is effectively over. May as well just go on disability and soak of government moolah for the rest of your life

The judge's order notes that the boy can set up a payment plan, though payments can be halted after 10 years as long as he complies, completes probation and doesn't commit other crimes.

so after 10 years of compling with a payment plan its halted and hell only have to start paying again if he commits any other crimes right ? seems fair to me

Just make his community service with the fire department and then he'll fall into a career that can pay whatever the 10 years worth is and after 100 years, he'll put out enough fires to break even
