I do care about school shootings. It's not my fault no one except the President is willing to do what needs to be done about them.

But I INCREDIBLY care about disrespecting our flag and military.

Most of the veterans I know dont even care about this controversy. Its just delicate little snowflakes like TC who throw a hissy fit if anybody does something they disagree with.

Its been like 3 years since this started and I still have no ability to understand people who are upset at players kneeling in protest.

I still don't understand why the national anthem is played before every game anyway. I understand it being played before every national team game (I.e. when the USA plays whoever) but why is it played before every normal sports game?

Also how many people in bars or at home stand for the anthem before games? It's the vast minority who stand in that situation. Yet I bet those same people who don't stand complain about the players not standing.

I think the only time I ever stood at home was after the 2010 Olympic Hockey Gold when I was so wasted I was screaming the Canadian anthem at my American friend.

In a bar you aren't in vicinity of the real flag.

You are watching it on a screen. I used to do so for NASCAR races till about a decade ago, and that was the reason I stopped unless I was there or around an actual flag.

solving the problem of people murdering each other is impossible. it could probably be reduced by banning guns, though.

That's the problem, though. The genie is out of the bottle, and banning guns doesn't necessarily equate to getting rid of them entirely. You'd still have a Vegas shooter, who'd manage to source his weapons from somewhere because he had the means to do so. You'd also have run of the mill violent criminals resorting to more primitive weapons, which is what they're seeing in the UK with the knife violence. And there's still the issue of homemade explosives, as they reported the Texas shooter had planted.

The only thing I'm trying to say is that there's something deeply rooted in our culture that is causing this problem. Pinpointing it isn't going to be an easy task, and solving it will likely take generations of effort before society sees results.

What if NFL players kneeling caused fewer school shootings?

So I only found out via the radio this morning that the only reason the players are out for the anthem in the first place is because the NFL was paid a shit ton of money to implement it that way? Is that true?

That is 100% true.

Military branches pay them for it. A decade or so ago teams were always in the back for the anthem.

That's why I've always said you don't want to stand, sit the fuck in the back.
