Got prescribed a new depression med and the pharmacist said I absolutely can't drink on it because it heightens the affects of alcohol. Even just one drink.

I had a flash feeling of "shit why couldn't I have gotten this when I was drinking" followed by "I want to try it really badly."

Shit sucks, man.

That sucks, especially since it's unavoidable. They have to legally let you know those sorts of things. Use that rational part of your brain and tell yourself, "I wasn't going to drink anyway, so having this medication doesn't change that promise to be sober."

Was the medication Latuda?

Honestly, I like having such a great reason to not drink. Its so much easier to say that I can't drink because of my medication than any other reason. Its one of the only things that people don't immediately try to convince you is wrong.

I must be hanging out with some shitty people then, because when I was having severe stomach issues, people would keep pushing drinks on me, even though a 4% would have me reeling in pain.

Welbutrin

Yeah, that's true as well. That's a good idea too. I hate the peer pressure to drink and I haven't really wanted to be like, "hey I can't drink I'm an alcoholic" because that'll kill the vibe. I haven't been in the situation yet but you're right I can say medication now.

Yeah don't mix this with alcohol. It only heightens the bad effects like nausea, the spins, etc...at least that's how it was for me, worst night ever. Barely helped with the buzzed/good effects and was pretty unnoticeable of a difference.

Like for real, being on that's a better reason to not drink. Not worth it imo

Only? That's more than me and my vices. I don't want to make it a comparison issue because that's unfair in a lot of different ways, but I still think that's a really good number. And there's always room for another day to add on there.

I've never taken Xanax before. I feel like it doesn't get prescribed a ton. I take visteril for my anxiety but that's just an anti histamine type medication.

This. I got all the bad effects and couldn't actually get drunk. Unless it was a weird day and one drink would give me a hangover. Also made smoking suck. It was a great medication for not using substances imo

Those feelings are part of life. I'm going to donate blood before I get more tattoos, and even though I haven't drunk for over a year my first thought was "super easy to get drunk now"

No, there is still a lot lower I could go. I'm still getting out of bed but a lot of that has to do with the fact that I'm able to recognize that it's my depression symptoms now and that I'm not actually sad and nothing is actually wrong right now I guess. And that's a pretty great thing.

Well I have some things wrong but nothing laying in bed all day is going to fix.

It doesn't cure a damn thing about depression but I recommend some b vitamin and d vitamin supplements for low mood. It can at least help with elevated mood

People who have been drinking long term have chronically lowered B vitamin levels and would likely benefit from supplementation for a while when recovering. Get that blood all healthy. It can be part of your lowered mood. Sublingual B vitamin supplements might make you feel a little better in a hurry

You can only absorb so much b vitamin at a time and it takes months (or years if you're depleted enough) of chronic supplementing or injections to go from deficient to healthy blood levels. If you're not still supplementing at home it's worth considering. Could be adding clouds to that storm

With IV transfusions to your blood stream you can absorb all of it. With pills you can only absorb so much.

And yeah, I only got 6 transfusions and the treatment center offers the transfusions to you at a price if you want to continue outside of treatment but I don't really want to pay for them.

Normal B12 deficiency treatment involves injections and not IV, and still requires you to have follow up treatment and blood monitoring for months. IV vitamin treatment has been a scandal ridden fad in Canada and is not sanctioned by our health care. If it were cheaper and more effective I'm sure they would. Water soluble vitamins like riboflavin and b12 need to be replenished each day or levels drop. Even if you did IV before, your blood levels were great for that day, you absorbed all you could, and then your body is still deficient. That's just how those vitamins work, and part of why you don't overdose with a megadose like that. Needs to be built up every day (yes every day) for a long time. Can't turboload it or fix deficiency in just a few sessions, you pee it out.

Don't pay to do extra transfusions. You can request blood tests for vitamin levels and if they are low, you can supplement yourself. Sublingual B complex vitamins are cheap and do work, that's what I've been told to take and successfully used to treat chronic B vitamin deficiency

I will shut up about vitamins. good luck with the new meds--wellbutrin can be a really helpful tool for treatment.

that is good, i am sure the IVs were helpful. it is worth considering the human body is not physically capable of rapidly replenishing or storing water soluble b vitamins. no matter what is in the bag--that is not how your body uses those things. If there were a vitamin deficiency before you would still be deficient and feeling symptoms, just definitely not as much as you would have been without using the IVs or other megadosing methods. intramuscular injections are the only long lasting b vitamin treatment involving a needle. all treatments require many months of adherence to fix a deficiency

this is why my treatment took a solid 6 months to make headway. it takes a long time to build things up. there is no rush mode. that's physiology :(

You're more concerned with B1 (thiamine) than B12. it still works the same for absorption.
