The guy has autism, I can't do anything about it. I have to take punches lol. It's not the first time I've been punched in the face. At my old behavior therapy job I got kicked in the dome

Where on Earth do you work that letting staff get punched in the face, is a reasonable accommodation?

So I work with this 16 year old kid who has trouble with table work. So I was sitting across from him from the table, and he started to escalate and lunged forward and punch me in the eye. I just remained neutral, didn't Flinch, and just gesture to the work being done. Eventually he Descalated and was fine.

It really depends on the person you work with. A lot of kids I choose to work with are very low functioning, so I expect things like this to happen but eventually a lot of these aggressions decrease and they have learned a lot of good valuable life skills

It honestly just has to do with adrenaline. Also, the best part is all the cute girls I work with run up to me after the situation asking me if I'm okay lol

Wouldn't be appropriate. That would Prime him to understand that the punches have affected therapists. It would entice him to try to do more

A friend of mine has been hit doing similar work, tough gig I think.

I started a couple years ago in the field, and when I first started it was like a whole new world opened up. But now I'm extremely comfortable in the field, and the progress I've seen in so many of the people who I've worked with is astounding.

If they are willing. Lots of kids have food intervention, because they won't eat ANYTHING.

That's good work there.

Unfortunately he's just a caretaker not a therapist, and these aren't autistic kids but challenged adults who aren't expected to improve. They're high functioning but still need occasional supervision. Still good work that needs done though

I used to work with a lot of challenged teens in Juvenile Correctional facilities.

I'd say for me, it's only like 5-10% getting fucked up. I'm proud to say I connect very well with people on the spectrum. They seem to like me, and we are able to get so many programs done without spouts of behavior.

Unlike others in my field who get behavior problems every session lol

Instead of letting these people hit you in the face have you heard of dodging, blocking, or punching the fuck bag back ???

I dont care what their issue is punching people in the face is not acceptable and you need to report it so they learn this bullshit is not acceptable.

I would have dodged, had i been quick enough. The reason I did nothing after the punch, was because he was waiting for the reaction. I could have dodged and continued to gesture for the work, but I was not quick enough.

Least we know the fields not for everyone ;)

Story time.

I was driving a child to his home when I was doing home therapy

We were about 30 minutes away

He unbuckles his seat, and kicks me in the eye with his cowboy boots. He then starts freaking out, and forces himself to vomit in my car

the vomit freaked him out, so he punched himself in the nose, causing him to bleed everywhere

He then stripped naked and went wild lol

Oooh yes yes. We don't use CPI. I feel it's a little outdated. We use PCM, which the holds are less rigid for the clients.

Going to have to disagree with you there. A lot of kids are unable to vocally speak their problems, and only understand that lashing out can get a response. That's why I do what I do. To teach them life skills and show them there's other ways to communicate and live their life
