What the fuck? Not only was Sleeping Dogs a massive success considering it was a new IP (ish) and didn't get a quarter of the advertising budget most SE games get, but I fail to see how being Asian makes someone difficult to relate to.

I am Asian, and considering that Asians are a minority of the population in the US, I only see an Asian superhero character being successful if not too much emphasis is put on Asian references.

You can like a martial arts movie but you will never see a martial arts movie in a "Top 100 movies of all time" list. It's the same with Anime. The only respected Anime films are the Studio Gilbhi ones.

Seven Samurai routinely ranks in Top 100's. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won 10 Academy Awards and 40 other awards. Enter the Dragon is routinely referenced in action movie circles as one of the greats. As for anime, Akira is renowned for being a work of art and highly influential on sci-fi and cyberpunk.

So you are wrong on every count. You also failed to answer why you seem to believe that mascot characters stopped because people only like stories about creatures and people that look like them.

because videogaming was mainly a children thing in the 80's/90's. Now that the demographic of gamers has expanded to teenagers, college students, and parents there had to be change in how videogames are presented.

Unfortunately Sleeping Dogs was a bit of a sleeper/cult hit and wasn't seen as a big success for the studio. They have since closed down.

He is completely wrong about the reviews and the Asian protagonist had nothing to do with its sales IMO. Once people played it they usually thought the game was great. It just went to the bargain bin awfully quick.
