I personally hate them, but will use them if I must.

I buy a lot of groceries and they often have very limited space to put things and it is always shouting return item to the bagging area, or just locking up help is on the way.

I cant see the link but I like self checkout cause they are super convenient. Nothing like seeing a ten deep line and walking over to self check out and leaving two minutes later.

I love them, machines are easier to deal with than human cashiers.

Also completely agree with this. I always find I cant help myself and say something when someone goes through with 50 items when it says 12 items or less. One of the stores near me is fantastic about shaming those people out of the line.

Ill use them if I dont have a lot, otherwise Id rather not. They get super annoying if you have heavy things because theres not a lot of space and itll freak out if you dont put everything in the bagging area.

Self checkout lanes are generally more convenient. The one annoying thing that makes me want break the fucking screen is when it can't detect the weight of your items or asks you to remove an item you just rang up. But even then it's still faster than waiting in line for a cashier usually.

They almost never fuck up on me. They certainly used to - but not now.

Considering the vast majority of cashier encounters in most retail places are mediocre at best I disagree.

I just use them to steal.

If they're going to cut down on their workforce to save money, I'll hit them somewhere else. That and save myself a ton of money on groceries and goodies.

This is such a misguided thought. Between how often the self-checkouts need to be cleared and how often people try to steal when using them, they need to be monitored 100% of the time. Which is typically done by a cashier.

Yeah, but it's usually one single employee who's keeping tabs on 4+ machines. It depends on how many manned checkout lanes they usually have, but yeah - that could drop the numbers.

I'm not even saying that as an argument against using self-checkout - I still prefer it to dealing with a cashier.

Self checkout lanes are more convenient because theyre ergonomical. Usually its a whole line of people waiting for 4 different stations than trying to guess which individual cashier line isnt going to get tied up by an idiot

If the store isn't covering the cost of the cashier, why the hell should I have pay the same prices?
Apply a 5-10% discount, and I'll use the thing every time - except when buying booze, because the things freak the hell out.

I'm not a fan of them so I never use them. I'm actually not sure where all this negative interaction with the cashier is coming from. The checkout machine seems like much more of a hassle than the very limited interaction with the cashier.

In any case I'd rather keep them employed, not have to deal with the machine, and have them bag my stuff for me.
