Starbucks has told employees to let anyone use the restroom, even if they haven't bought anything, as it reviews its policies and tries to restore its reputation after the arrest of two black men at a coffee shop in Philadelphia.

The coffee chain said it wants all customers who come in "to feel welcome" and it's conducting a three-month review of its guidelines. That follows comments from Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz said he didn't want people to feel "less than" if they were refused access.

"We don't want to become a public bathroom," said Schultz, "but we're going to make the right decision a hundred percent of the time and give people the key."

LOL. Why not make Starbucks a homeless shelter too?

Yeah, especially when people abuse that privilege and do drugs in the bathroom or vandalize it.

Lol I've always just treated restrooms like this as a free toilet when I'm out shopping or doing something.

Never have felt obligated to buy something to use a restroom

I've used the bathroom in NYC starbucks without buying anything...

I think not allowing bathroom use is wicked. We all have to shit sometimes. Have empathy for your fellow man.

I wasn't even aware that was a Starbucks policy. Normally they'd only restrict homeless people from using it since customers would often complain about them.

They won't be able to kick out any homeless who want to sleep overnight in the store. They'll have to allow it, at least if they're black.

it was a half enforced policy. Only seemed to be enforced if it was someone who wasn't the average white dude or dudette and is honestly what led to the whole fiasco.

Or, they could apply some common sense.
Are they already in the habit of letting customers stay in the building after hours?
