This extends to the kitchen staff too. I actually have an old friend whom I can't stand to be around because all he talks about is how much his job sucks. Like dude, you've been working in restaurants for 20 years now, if you don't like it do something else

Hes probably in his 30s or 40s, yeah? Could be really tough for him to start in another industry now. People like to take a chance on young people, not older people with no experience.

At the same time, I dont blame him for hating it, 20 years in that industry could sap the life out of you real quick. 12 hour shifts without breaks, weird and inconsistent hours, high stress, constantly on your feet its a lot.

no it's a huge part of the culture. that's a good 75% of the convo they have with each other when mingling out and about and is a big reason why waiters/bartenders are almost like a fraternity and they all hang out and hook up with each other

I guess the point is I don't need to hear about it for 20 years. There are aspects of my job I don't like either, but people who don't work in my industry do not care about that so I don't feel the need to go on and on about it.

That makes sense. My housemates all worked at a winery together for a few months and all they did was complain about it during that time, it was a bummer for me being there and not relating or caring.
