I've spent the last 20+ days in a homeless shelter in Bumfuck (Eugene) Oregon, depression and despair doesn't even begin to describe what I'm feeling right now, and everyday I find it harder and harder to resist jumping into the nearby river and drowning my worthless ass.

I'm not needed, I'm not wanted, I never should have been born in first place, I've finally hit rock-bottom and my situation is hopeless.

I'm on the assumption he's tried finding paying positions to no avail. Volunteering is usually the first step to getting noticed. Better than... whatever he's doing right now.

Most people need to work. Helps you feel like you are a contributing member to society. If you can get a job starting volunteer work is a good start.

My mom died years ago and my dad died last October.

I've been looking for work since I was 16, I'm 34 now, and I still can't get anyone to hire me for anything. The last bit of money I had dried up in December, my aunt took me in afterwards come January, but she evicted me 3 months later, and that's when I went into a homeless shelter.

I've never liked the idea of having to rely on others, I hate it, but I've given up on ever being useful now. It's clear I was never meant to be successful or happy, just worthless and waiting to die in the gutter.

You are not garbage or excess in any sense of the word. You are a human being with a ton of life to live and a ton of intrinsic worth. Do you have a criminal record or some type of social issue that is preventing you from being hired?

It helps you get noticed, ask for opportunities from eating places and factories for a chance to prove yourself. Either through networking or hiring you for themselves. Also they give you referee.

Then you can put your experience and referee on a resume, an iron clad full of believable and relevant bs, resume that your referee will back up to get a job. Then comes persistence and presentation.

At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, what do you want out of yourself? YouTube videos about how to get a job and do well interviews and spend less time here.

Going through hard times and terrible shit doesn't make you a terrible person. It's a hard fucking world for a lot of people. Especially when depression enters the picture.

It's clich and sounds totally useless but sometimes taking it one day at a time and just plodding on is all you can do. And that's enough. As long as you can find the strength to try things can change. And finding that strength is admirable.

I have no criminal record, and I don't know about any mental/social issues as I've never been evaluated and I'm not about to self-diagnose beyond "obvious depression".

And no, if I had any worth, I never would have ended up in this situation to begin with. Anyone can get a job except me, so there *must* be something wrong/undesired about me. Ending up homeless is like being culled, it's just society making the call instead of nature.

It was only in the last few days that I found a library with computers you could borrow for a couple of hours.

And there's nothing I can do otherwise, if nobody would hire me before when I was able, they're sure as hell not going to hire me now in my current condition.

Not to be rude to you TC, but I have to second this. You're ignoring the only person here who's offering help. It's horrible that you are in this predicament, but I hope this isn't attention seeking.

This isn't about attention-seeking, if there's some post in here that I'm not seeing/responding to, then it must mean that poster is on my ignore list. In which case there's probably a reason for that, and any help they're offering seems dubious to me. Hell, I wouldn't even expect people I know on this site to help me, this was meant more to update them rather then as a plea for help because there's no fixing my shit, I've always been fucking worthless.

So what else can I do but accept what's happened to me? If I was never meant for this, it never would have happened in the first place. Once you're in the gutter that's it, there's no climbing back out, you either grow old and die there or kill yourself before then.

You can think otherwise about your situation, maybe you have some life-line or plan I don't know about, but I have no reason to think differently about my own fate, this isn't just some bad luck I can turn around because if I ever had any luck at all I never would have fucking ended up this way. This had to happen for a reason, or maybe I did something to deserve it, I don't know, but it was unavoidable no matter what I did then or what I do now.
