no it's the other way around. this law is about morality at the expence of people's lives. people who support this law are the ones who don't care.

You obviously dont care about all the victims legalised prostitution will create...

The fact of the matter is that option 1 results in more victims, option 2 results in less, you think option 1 is the better choice, because you dont care...

Wrong. You think the better choice is the one that creates more victims. Thats not debateable.

I honestly believe that my way saves lives. you are focused on numbers of kidnappings I focus on numbers of murders. as long as someone is still alive , there is hope for the future. that's how I see it. and this law is getting people killed. that is what my problem is

I dont have stats cause that stuff is usually swept under the rug by society. but I know that the law shuts down message boards that they were using to keep each other alive. these were boards where prostitutes posted to talk to each other and give advice and tips on staying alive. now each one of them is shut off from their community and alone now. they cant rely on each other anymore and they will not know what places are safe or which pimps or customers to trust and which to avoid

also if they properly legalized it, it would be safe. I am talking the actual government overseeing it. every prostitute would have a badge and an ID and be registered and pay taxes. if one of them goes missing, there would be questions. it would work

and people kidnapped wouldn't work because you would have to talk to the government to get registered and if your not registered you are illegal. and to be registered you have to do an interview and tell them you weren't kidnapped. this would shut down all kidnapping

Rika, you posted "a study" and claim victory because shockthemonkey didn't have time to look over it in detail.

Fortunately, I do.

While that study is certainly damning for proponents of legalized sex work, there are a few caveats to it.

One, while the study states it did a full cross-sectional study on over a hundred countries, it admits that the study can only support "an association" between prostitution legalization and sex trafficking, but cannot establish causality.

Two, they then went to the case studies, examining Germany, Sweden, and Denmark. The results they put together indicate support their hypothesis, but one still has to examine the fact that the study was done over the series of five years (1999-2003), and admits a lot of factors. For one, pre-legalization in Denmark data is not available, nor is pre-criminalization data in Sweden. Pre-criminalization in Sweden, the law stated that individual sale was legal, but not organized brothels. That's just a couple of examples of caveats that can put bias in the data.

So, while this study *supports* Rika's argument about legalization of sex work increasing human trafficking, it's not *proof*. It's always important with these studies to go all the way to the details to realize that one study is rarely the be-all end-all for an argument.

...

Oh, and has been said multiple times in this topic, the study has nothing to contribute to the argument of whether a new law can reduce trafficking in a country where prostitution is already largely illegal.

The hypothesis being put forth is "if criminalization of prostitution reduces sex trafficking, then it therefore follows that new laws cracking further down on prostitution will further reduce sex trafficking."

Not the worst assumption in the world, but the data you're supplying doesn't support it.

Hollywood was a big player behind FOSTA/SESTA.

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20180318/00493539444/hollywoods-behind-the-scenes-support-sesta-is-all-about-filtering-internet.shtml

This has little to do with sex trafficking and everything to do with control and censorship. Sex trafficking was a pawn in a much bigger chess game.
