I just finished watching both seasons recently. I feel like all of these characters just ooze of badass. I also have a sudden feeling of replaying all of the Metal Gear Solid games too for some reason.

Obviously the Major is the most badass but who is second most badass?

Same. I didn't get into the series until Stone Alone Complex but within that series and the movies, it feels Batou and Togusa are the second and third most important characters within the squad.

I liked Togusa because he was the closest to himself of the cast, besides the lack of cybernetics he was the only one with a real family and the stakes seemed higher for him

Aye. I like how in that era he still uses an "ol school" gun, the Mateba. Maybe it's just the anime depiction of the rest of the squad but he seem to have actual personality compared to the rest, besides Matoko and Batou of course.

Aramaki, but that's hardly fair. He's the boss of all these badasses and was dealing with this shit long before they were born.

After him, it's probably Batou, who's like a more down-to-earth Major. Togusa makes a sort of pair with him, but Togusa's the most vulnerable of the squad, kind of the morality pet, and you just can't be the highest baddest when you're the pet. His valiance is a strong appeal to us, but it's not actually something useful or smart to have in the uniformly gray moral standards of the GiTS show.

The laughing man was cool, I liked him more than Kuze in the second season though, but Kuze was still pretty badass though.

I think Bormas the only one that didnt get an episode to himself on the show, like how much of a badass he is or how he came to be. I mean he looks badass, but I feel like everyone else out badasses him.

The only times Batou gets his ass beat is when he allows it, to further his own agenda.

Finished watching the Arise series (first time watch). Thought it was entertaining enough, but S.A.C is just way more badass and Im also kinda bummed that the the Major is voiced by some other chick, but also the voice actor that voiced Matoko in S.A.C voices a different character, which kinda annoyed me to be honest.

It was a good watch, but not as good as S.A.C. though.
