pumps the gas? This is news to me. If I'm with a lady friend and it's her car and she stops for gas, I let her pump her own gas. Never even occurred to me that I should be the one pumping that gas. But I'm just discovering that that's a big no no and people will think you're a jerk.

This depends upon the relationship. My wife doesnt pump her own gas. My dates never pumped their own gas. They rarely drove either. My mom never pumped her own gas. Random friends pump their own gas.

Seriously though, when my cousin went to Alabama she tried to pump her own gas and the cashier told her it was unbecoming of a lady to have to do that and she should ask one of the men in the parking lot to do it next time.

I suppose my definition of equality is a little different than most. Mrs. C7D and I consider ourselves to be equal. We have an approximately equal division of labor. We both work outside the home approximately 40-45 hours a week. We have a division of labor when it comes to the general home chores. That being said, we dont take turns doing all of them. Rather, we have figured out that some chores are more readily suited to either me or her. We dont do everything. We each have our mutually assigned tasks.

She doesnt like to pump gas because of the smell. I dont like waiting in line at the convenience store She usually goes inside the station to pick up a drink for us while Im pumping.

In my case, when my wife is driving I will pump the gas for her if the weather is shitty, because it's a nice thing to do.

If the weather isn't shitty she can do it :P

I think in this scenario it makes sense to offer to pump gas. It seems like the nice thing to do. Some women seriously have no clue how to properly pump gas and will do things like top it off. Other women know exactly what to do and would prefer to do it themselves. I see nothing wrong if an S.O. offers to pump gas.

With that in mind, fuck other people's judgment. They don't know the scenario, so they can fuck off.

I should also disclose that my fiancee was born and raised as a Jersey girl (we live in Maryland), so she's not even used to pumping her own gas anyway.....

My grandmother abides by this supposed custom. One time, after years of not being in a car with her, we ended up having to go somewhere and needed to stop and get gas. I had completely forgotten that she doesn't pump her own gas if there's a man in the car so when we pulled up to the gas station she pulled up beside the pump and just sat there. I was bullshitting on my phone for like 30 seconds until I finally looked up and noticed her just staring at me. Took me a few more seconds until I remembered why.

I've definitely seen ideas like this pushed. Hell for example I've seen this pic around on social media from time to time with droves of women liking & positively commenting on it.

I think in general people find it to be the chivalrous thing to do, which is pretty much why I don't do it. If you're driving & paying, you're pumping the gas. I don't care who you are.

This topic makes me realize that I almost never ride with women. If my mom and/or grandmother are in town, I'll usually pump the gas for them.

When I ride with my friends, I'll handle it if they ask. Like if they needed to use the restroom and wanted me to pump to minimize time spent.

I also usually pump it if a particular friend is driving and the weather is bad. He's got health issues (healthy enough to drive, but being out in the freezing rain could really mess him up, for instance).
