What's your MBTI personality type?

After reading David Keirsey's Please Understand Me II: Temperament, Character, Intelligence (you can google 'Please Understand Me PDF' and check the top links) I've recently become fascinated with the study of personality types. His analysis of each type seems to be a stunningly accurate prediction of a person's behaviour and character/temperament.

Anyway, I'm an INTP with a significant overlap with INFP traits and I will hazard a guess that approx. 70% of CE will be in 'The Rational' category.

Sorry I haven't provided a link to the test as I'm not yet sure which is the best version of it. The 16personalities or Truity tests are a good place to start (yet these aren't particularly advanced).

Finally, if you don't believe MBTI is accurate/useful etc. I'd be interested to hear why you believe so and whether there are any other personality tests you find more useful (perhaps the 'Big 5'?).

Hate to be the one to inform you that it's just astrology for people who think they're too clever for astrology.

Because it's inherently bullshit pseudoscience, as are all personality tests. None are "useful," or indeed needed in any way.

No. They aren't falsifiable scientific "studies."

MBTI hasn't been studied very much scientifically, and to the extent to which it has, people have found it to have poor psychometric properties.

Which isn't surprising since its theoretical roots are in Jungian psychodynamic theory.

Astrology is literally based on nothing. It's just a 100% shot in the dark.

MBTI at least tries to be scientific. It's a great tool for describing what's there, but its insufficient to describe the underlying mechanisms.

No, it's unscientific because it's based on underlying unfalsifiable theory.

Technically, the MBTI could be a good psychological assessment, by chance more or less, but it isn't.

MBTI's classifications can be falsified relatively easily.

INTPs love analyzing and categorizing everything.

And just so happen to be one of the most prolific types you see in the science world so most psychologists are going to be of this type.

Also OCEAN is woefully incomplete. It doesn't really give you the nitty gritty of how someone's personality works, just the absolute most surface level things.

It's incomplete, but there aren't really any solid theories for personality in the first place. I tend towards OCEAN since there can be subcategories and I've actually read research that used OCEAN for studies involving personality traits.

And I don't think it's supposed to be easy to categorize like MBTI. It's more looking at how they interact. Definitely not easy to digest.

Used to be INTP but have floated towards INTJ and ISTP at various life stages.

The thing to remember is that the 16 classifications are archetypes and literally no one is pure anything; it's interesting and useful in so much as how people view themselves versus how I see them, notably. And past that it's a basic self descriptor which I find to be more informative than "likes sports, travel, and music"

I wouldn't call it pseudoscience. Imo though, people should be aware that personality has to be on a spectrum, much like gender really. Just as everyone partakes in different behaviors with varying degrees of what society deems 'feminine' and 'masculine', so then must we partake in actions that are to varying degrees loyal to these typings. The idea of 16 types is kind of misleading, and it's widely accepted that people's personality's change over time, that people are capable of developing certain components of their personalities that were once weaker. So if people can become more well rounded is there personality the same? Not really.

Also, it might not be the best route to type ourselves. And if you ask me, getting typed by some professional would probably take a while if they want to be honest about it....instead of just taking some test.

I would also say that the 'I' types are probably more likely to accurately assess themselves as it's easy to know if you're introverted, and introversion is correlated with introspection.
