2010 Honda Accord EX-L (v6) fully loaded highest trim, 59k miles, asking price $11,500. Car meticulously maintained, owned by 1 owner who purchased brand new.

2010 Hyundai Genesis, fully loaded Highest trim with Premium and Tech Package, 74k miles. Asking price $10,000. The Genesis is a behemoth of luxury, costing around $55,000 when new. It has corner adaptive Bi xenon HID headlights, heated/cooled seats, rear sun shade, 17 speaker 7.1 Dolby surround sound (amazing sound system, only found in Rolls Royce), super quiet cabin.. A luxury car basically. But the issue, the owner claims is that: "First owner had purchased as a lemon buyback due to the auto start ignition needing to be replaced (can see this on the carfax). No issues as the second owner."

Which would you buy? Just get the Accord because it's in mint condition and will drive for 200k more miles and last the next 20 years with minimal issues. Or get the Genesis which has mercedes benz luxury and convenience, and a bulletproof engine which has also been recorded to get 200k miles, but the downside is what if that person didn't maintain the engine right.. It was already a buy back, do you think the second owner took care of it?

Ah, given how much backstory the Genesis has, I'd lean towards the Accord. If the car really was meticulously owned. Less overall mileage too.

I figured the Honda would be the winner. I was just curious if anyone thought the Hyundai would win cus its such a low cost for amazing amenities. Though to be honest, that Honda is no joke either if you have the highest trim.

Hyundai/Kia have come a long way, and if it had a similar treatment to the Honda I'd say Genesis, but in used cars the previous owner is one of the most critical factors of the car's remaining life. A car can be a complete tank but if it's run ragged and neglected, that adds up.

I'm forever wary of Hyundai products. Those things have 10-year warranties for a reason.

The biggest issue I have with Hyundai/Kia right now is that they have GDI engines. These engines have the fuel injector right in the cylinder as opposed to behind the intake valves, meaning they foul up much more quickly, leading to misfires, and all sorts of other problems. Now, it's not too bad/expensive of a fix, if you catch it in time, as you take off the intake manifold and clean the ports out, but it's something that used to be very rare, now becoming expected service 50-70k miles down the road.

Granted this process is slow and takes many thousands of miles to manifest, but it's a real problem that GDI engines face right now. Some companies are getting the right idea and adding injectors to both the cylinder and the ports so that they get the instant response GDI provides, and the cleaning properties port injected engines get.

That being said, I own a 2018 Optima, and I'm doing my best to prepare for the inevitable. Assuming I want to keep the car forever.

I had an '07 Fit for ten years and only ever had to take it in for oil changes / tire-rotations (and a passenger airbag recall once).

Ten years with no problems. Still in the family and running smoothly for my younger brother.

My parents gave me a choice of a new car (within financial reason) when my brother crashed his car (so we gave him the '07), and my first choice was a new '18 Fit. hnnngggg

Honda is spectacular
