1. Why did Smeagol get corrupted by the Ring so QUICKLY? He killed his cousin/friend as soon as they discovered it.

2. Why didn't Sauron find the Ring the entire time Gollum had it?

3. How many Dunedain are there between Fellowship and RotK and what the hell are they doing? Who are Aragon's kin? Why aren't they backing him up?

Jah bless.

He had a weak will.

Gollum went underground and hid, rarely putting the ring on. Same with Bilbo I suppose.

They were in the North, scattered. In the book I believe about 30 showed up to help Aragorn, but they're a fairly solitary men.

How come Gollum didn't turn to dirt when he lost the ring, but Bilbo aged super fast after having been parted with it for a short time?

In the books its 17 years from when Bilbo leaves the Shire and when Frodo leaves. The movies had to shorten this up for pacing reasons.

tbf the movie doesn't say that 17 years didn't pass
you see Gandalf ride off to Gondor to look at the library and back again, so it's a decent stretch of time

2. Sauron's spirit was still too weak during the time that Gollum had The One. By the time it fell into the possession of Frodo, Sauron had regained much of his former power and was able to use his gift of sight to direct his wraiths to the ring's last known location.

Movie nonsense I guess.

Excellent series despite the inclusion of elves at Helm's Deep.

1-Weak will.

2-Hid under misty mountains in some under ground caves where bilbo found him.

3-Is a bit more complicated because Dnedain is basically decendents of the faithfull of Nmenor and covers most of the nobility of Gondor and Arnor for example Boromir and Faramir would be classed as Dnedain.

But if you mean the rangers of the north remnants of the Kingdom of Arnor and Aragorns people, we don't know how many there is but they probably don't number more than a few hundred low thousands population wise, for what they where doing they where a scattered people who protect places like the shire and when called upon could only muster 30 men to ride to Aragorns aid and met him at helms deep, the elves took their place in the movies.

I hope the upcoming Amazon LOTR series does a better job at imagining Sauron's demise at the hands of Isildur. The book was very vague on the final battle, other than Sauron's ring finger being cut after his defeat.

Also why the hell does Arwen have a far much more important rule in the movies?

Why the fuck would Aragorn NOT have Anduril from the beginning?!

I guess they just wanted a female character on the screen more. In the books you only really have Eowyn. And even she gets more time spent on her in the movies.

As for Anduril, not sure. I think it might just be that they wanted to portray movie Aragorn as much more reluctant to take up his role as king.

You'd have to ask peter Jackson.

In the books Narsil was reforged when Frodo was in rivendell and given to Aragorn before the fellowship set out.

Was there ever a time in the books where Aragon used the sword to prove that he was the king to the undead army (like in the movies)? I don't recall that in the books but I may be wrong.

Ugh, I hated how they would flip flop character motivations and personalities in the movies. I know it's an adaptation, but come on. Aragorn wanted to be king and knew he had to earn it.

Also all that unneeded Arwen crap just takes away from Eowyn anyway. Well already have her as the badass female and Galadriel also to a lesser extent. Jackson and Co. did a lot of things right, but we shouldn't ignore the dumb stuff he did either regardless if it was an adaptation.

Anyone else excited about the upcoming Amazon series that will likely delve into the origins of Sauron (based on Silmarillion)?

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/arts/television/lord-of-the-rings-series-amazon.html

I already love Game of Thrones, and to have a similar drama set in the LOTR fantasy world has me super excited.

No that didn't happen in the book.

In the book he showed his standard the one made by Arwen and brought by the Rangers, Aragorn declared himself the heir Isildur and ordered them to aid him which they did and cleared southern Gonder of the Corsairs of Umbar.

The army of the dead didn't fight in the battle of pelennor fields another thing changed in the movies.

But doesn't the Tolkien family still own the rights for The Silmarillion? How will that work?

While you can kinda make some comparisons between LOTR and Game of Thrones with the struggles and fights between the Sons of Feanor and the rest of the elven families and some other things, I'd rather not have gratuitous scenes where Sauron or Fingolfin is banging some elf whore.

I think they found it's more entertaining for viewers to see a character who is not chasing his birthright.

But in the movie it doesn't show a conflict for kingship. Aragorn just kinda acts solemn at every mention of being king for no real reason or explanation or whatsoever.

I guess so, but the reluctant hero at that time seemed almost as cliche.

It's been a while since I've seen the movies, but the only real scene about that I recall was in Fellowship where Aragorn tells Arwen that he's afraid of being just like Isildur. She then tells him that he has his blood, but he's not Isildur himself. A line which Aragorn says to defend himself in the books.

I digress here, but how the hell did Theoden trust a guy that looked like this?

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/4f/2c/7a/4f2c7ac70c85ca0fa6b7bf73e2fd100a.jpg

Certainly a face that wouldn't lie to you right there. Then again why is he even bothering since Saruman is possessing Theoden (which was dumb) anyway? Does Jackson not know what subtlety is or did they think audiences are stupid?

Yes and yes.

I kinda wish they had the Rohhirim singing while they were fighting orcs like in the books. "they sang as they slew." is one of the coolest lines in anything.

Yeah Gandalf seems pretty confident about fighting the Witch-King in the book. And he's even prepared to go out and fight him, but of course gets pulled away by Pippin.

Agreed, but I'm still just glad the scene made it into the extended edition in some form. The arrival of the Rohirrim was so badly edited in the theatrical version by comparison.

Movie-Arwen's role was largely reduced after Fellowship. She didn't really do much other than have prophetic visions and telepathic communications with Aragorn. And flashbacks.
Plus Eowyn was introduced as kick-ass female pretty much right at the beginning of Two Towers.
