Sam's speech in The Two Towers is probably one of the greatest, but it also competes with another speech in the very same trilogy (Aragorn's).

His speech to Frodo at the end of Two Towers is my favorite scene of the trilogy. Thing was so damn touching that even Gollum was moved.

No, he was meant to be the singular example of a completely unchanged, immovable character who was uncorrupted by pure evil.

I guess that's true
But even if he was the true ring bearer, I think he would have been all the things you described....
I mean he did all these things, like
Accompanied Frodo
Defeated Shelob
Carries Frodo up to mount Doom
Was pretty badass all around and not once did he even want the ring or let it corrupt him

Well there was that very brief moment of hesitation in the tower. But I think that's because he genuinely knew it was ruining Frodo.

Neither did Frodo want it.

Sam is the juxtaposition of someone who WATCHES the Ringbearer, vs the Ringbearer himself.

Sam is the will and fortitude Frodo lost.

My only gripe with Sam was his hostility towards Gollum. I mean, yeah, it's understandable, but his animosity towards him is what ultimately drove Gollum to his "stinker" personality -- at least in the books, anyway. Gollum could've been a redeemable, and is one of the few characters in the series that isn't completely black and white on the moral compass; he's always lived in the gray area due to his split personality and complex nature. That's why he's my favorite LotR character.

Yeah but Gollum did blame Sam for eating the bread, while Gollum was throwing it away.
However, I do feel sympathy for Gollum, as his condition was due to the corruption of the ring.

Frodo was never the best equipped to carry the burden of the Ring, he was just the one who volunteered and who had the misfortune of having that burden thrown on to him. He did it anyway to the best of his ability and Sam's role in the story was to support him throughout, which he did excellently. It's a center part of the story and one of my favorite dialogues:

Frodo:I wish the ring had never come to me, I wish none of this had happened.

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times but that is not for them to decide, All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."

Frodo was a fucking champ and so was Sam.

I think even Tolkien said that he's the real hero of the story. And Sean Astin did a fantastic job as him in the films. I do hate that "Go home Sam" scene though. So dumb, pointless, and is out of character and does him wrong. Not that I'm saying it's the actor's fault.

I hate to be that guy, but you don't live forever when mortals go to the Undying Lands unless you live forever. They're called the Undying Lands because the elves and the Valar live there. Frodo would finally get some peace for the rest of his days.
