(i.e. people who have bought skyrim multiple times since it has been released, people who defend any decision x company makes just because they like their games) (another example would be people who vehemently defend bethesda even though all their games on release are bland, similar, and full of bugs, it's fine because "mods will fix it" or "if you don't like it don't buy it" or "you can play a different game!")

anything with microtransactions + time invested can apply an effect similar too it, i'm sure there's a name for it
(an example would be a friend of mine who started league in like 2012 or so and has spent over eight thousand dollars on it, only ever tries new games from specific companies if he isn't playing league)

games in general can be used for extreme escapism and i don't think people can understand how bad it gets. my parents fought a lot so I played a lot of MMOs when I was younger, and I wouldn't notice when eight or nine hours had gone by, because it was so much easier to be lost in a world and talk to people with headphones on than to have dealt with my family.
(i.e. second life + social mmo clones like it, choosing a character similar to you whether in looks or in ideals, customizing a character in rpgs, simply getting in the mindset of getting lost in a new world and experiencing it etc)
