Assuming quality PSU (corsair bronze or something).

i5 4690
GTX 1070
2 Samsung SSDS
2 WD HDDs
1 PCie Wifi card (TP-Link)
1 PCie Sound card (xonar DGX)

is 500W enough?

Nope, I'd go with a 750w.

Technically, sure, but I'd go bigger just because. I don't like "good enough" when it comes to PSUs, personally.

500 is fine if you never intend to add more GPUs

A little more wouldn't be a bad idea if it's not much more money, 750 minimum for a 2x GPU setup

Not sure if i intend to add a new GPU anytime SOON. Like two years maybe. (1070 should stay relevant for that time right?)

I've got a 550W PSU, that's kinda... clicking. Like it sounds almost like those wind up toys, but it's constant. Almost like something's hitting the fan, and it's too old to RMA it.

At least 600 watts. If you plan to SLI at any point, I would get 800.

Check to see if there are any loose wires nearby. That usually results in clicking from the power supply. Barring that, your power supply could be on the way out, if it's old.

Don't fuck around with your PSU man, if that bitch fails they have a tendency to take other shit with them. You could have your entire system fucked from a PSU failure.

500W is fine. Might go up in wattage if you find some better PSU for similar pricing(or want a high-end feature like silent operation or fully modular) but a solid 500W PSU will never even be a worry in that kind of build.

FWIW I have an OC'd 4770k([email protected]) and a 780Ti w/a modded BIOS(and like 3 HDDs and 2 SSDs) and I'm pretty sure I've never managed to go over 500W even during a max OC benchmark run. A 4690 will consume like half the power of my OC'd i7 and a 1070 might not even hit half the power draw of my 780Ti. In reality your PC is going to be hitting 250-325W during a max load and any 500W PSU aside from chinese firehazard PSUs can handle that.

500 is fine provided it is a quality power supply. A lot of people make the mistake of getting too much power supply. Power supplies are most efficient at 50% load and that rig will draw 250 to 300 watts at load. At idle it will draw about 100. Power supplies are least efficient at under 20% load so a large 800 means your rig will spend most of its time in the under 20% load range.

Nobody runs SLI configurations anymore.

You best sweet spot would be a 650 if you plan to do some overclocking. Make sure it is gold certified or higher, and is from a reputable brand.

This. Everyone ignores the PSU and they suffer for it.

Yeah i had been meaning to go back to my 500W one when this one started clicking, but my friend is selling me his old rig sans hard drive and PSU for $200 tomorrow, so i'll just slap the 500W in there, and transfer all the parts to the new computer.
